Really scary stuff. the US NSF is following the lead of Ted Cruz cancelling "questionable projects that pushed onto science neo-Marxist perspectives about enduring class struggle". I've worked with NSF for 32 years. Something is wrong. This is not what they do.🧪

Happy #TrilobiteTuesday, y'all! I'm coming back home this week with a Paladin cf morrowensis molt found less than 5 miles from my house. Thankfully, this little guy dropped his cephalon by his pygidium on his way out! Even these are rarely found.

Financial peril could doom a famed New York paleontological institute “Exceptional” fossil collections housed by the Paleontological Research Institute risk being orphaned

Even *if* their fossil collections were somehow rehoused at other institutions, the potential closure of the Paleontological Research Institute would be an incalculable loss to specimen-based research. It would also eliminate an immensely important educational facility for students and the public. 🧪

Ever wondered why walking around museums is weirdly tiring? At normal speed our legs act like pendulums, swinging forward from the hip & saving us a huge amount of energy. In "museum shuffle" our muscles must do ALL the work of constant readjustment. So cake in the cafe is scientifically justified 🥳
