AI has replaced all regex developers
15.01.2025 12:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Learning the hard way that the most important setting to turn on in PhpStorm is βdrag-and-drop with ALT pressed onlyβ because it is waaay to easy to accidentally move files/folders otherwise.
12.01.2025 12:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here it is. Letting random nerds on Bluesky see it first.
bidlots.ca
Real time bidding platform. Stack is Laravel, livewire, tailwind, flux and me.
Preparing the email notifications and blog posts for perhaps the biggest launch in my 30+ year career. Certainly biggest in the last decade.
I may vomit.
If Air Canada has to email me ahead of my flight to tell me the plane does NOT have a functioning seat back entertainment system Iβm guessing that means no wifi either. I pretty much have to cancel right?
08.01.2025 01:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The gist of what I did
Facade, Controller & Sample console command that runs on a 5 minute schedule. Enum for good measure.
gist.github.com/kerkness/fa2...
Going live very soon with a Laravel app that requires a lot of scheduled tasks.
So I created a custom health check. Each task logs its success and failures in redis and an endpoint checks that log and returns an appropriate status.
Cloudflare checks it and I can sleep at night.
Iβve been coding almost daily for 30+ years and Iβm still learning with AI
Your use case is where I think AI is excelling. Using it to educate yourself. For anyone who is accustomed to self-learning itβs such powerful tool.
That does sound great. I do use claude a lot if in need to rubber duck an issue.
Iβm still pretty hesitant about letting AI replace anything beyond the string or function Iβm looking at. I donβt trust my test coverage enough.
Over all itβs pretty amazing we have any of these tools.
While I havenβt tried Cursor I can say copilot works great I pay for Pro tho.
05.01.2025 20:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I got CoPilot working well in PhpStorm now. It does use a bit more ram but I was looking for an excuse to upgrade to 64gigs
05.01.2025 20:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs been a few days since I tried switching from VSCode to PhpStorm w/ Laravel Idea.
I donβt think I will be switching back. I am having some issues with key mapping for GitHub CoPilot but otherwise my expectations have been exceeded.
Oh just great. Now Iβm going to be dreaming of even more side projects I donβt have time for!
04.01.2025 13:42 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I just spent many hours trying and failing to debug an odd css issue which creeped into production.
I finally asked Claude.ai
Oh. Thatβs a common tailwind issue apparently. Thereβs a simple config tweak that fixes it.
I really love AI even when it makes me feel stupid for waisting hours.
Yeah the irony isnβt lost on me. I use Windows + WSL2 and the official extension doesnβt seem to support my setup yet. Iβm sure they will get there but all the chatter on the extension has also highlighted how many people like Laravel Idea & PhpStorm.
03.01.2025 01:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβve happily used VSCode for many years for Laravel development. But Iβve also used JetBrainβs DataGrip for many years and happy with that. Well itβs a new year so giving PhpStorm a 30 day trial.
What are the chances I will be left wondering what took me so long?
My fav is equal parts, rolled oats, frozen blueberries & milk with a healthy tablespoon of natural peanut butter and Greek yogurt. Then in the morning add some bran buds and a tiny splash of milk before stirring it up.

01.01.2025 21:53 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I havenβt needed this component yet but I will be excited when I do.
Iβm dropping a new project in the next week and flux has been a real treat to use and gives the project a real polished look.
I was there as well!

In your prompt: Briefly explain your use case. Add a summary on your likely solution. Then ask the AI to expand on this and provide alternatives. Try this w/ claude.ai
Youβre going to learn something new. I guarantee it.

That dopamine hit when youβre working on refactor for 3 hours and it just works.

Love doing a little bin diving and finding key issues from my childhood.
1st appearance of Snake Eyes in G.I.Joe.
Also 2nd appearance of Monica Rambo & Captain Marvel joins the Avengers.
Life isnβt all code. Thereβs also comic books (and family and kids of course)
I'm creating a Starter Pack for Canadian Creatives. So, if you're an artist, author, musician, or other passionate creator, I would love to include you as a mechanism to advance the arts and bring fellow Canadians together.
Please let me know if you wish to be included.
Kindly retweet for support.
