I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

Next stage approaches for Hackney Wick's Yard theatre Tucked away in a corner of east London right next to the Olympic park, it has grown with the part of the capital it serves

Nice bit of interest in this piece about @theyardtheatre.bsky.social. Mentions The Flea show (excellent, move fast for tickets) but mostly tells story of theatre itself in context of change in Hackney Wick and Olympic Park area: davehillonlondon.substack.com/p/next-stage.... @mannyhothi.bsky.social

An impactful chart from @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social, showing the UK's homelessness crisis in comparison to other OECD countries.

In London specifically, rough sleeping has more than *tripled* since 2010

And a record 183,000 Londoners are in temporary accommodation - equivalent to one in 50 Londoners

Reflecting on the UKCF conference: Shawarmas, luggage compartments, and reparative grantmaking - Alliance magazine If there’s one thing, I’ve learned from attending conferences, it’s that no two experiences are ever the same. But nothing could’ve prepared me for the UKCF Conference in Harrogate this yearβ€”not just ...

"Inaction isn’t neutralβ€”it maintains the status quo, and if the status quo is built on systemic inequity, you're part of the problem. So yes, funders, we’ve got to step up."

An insightful piece from our grants manager Ugo on reparative grant making: www.alliancemagazine.org/blog/reflect...

In 2021, we made a Β£4.8m grant to Citizens UK to campaign to make London a Living Wage City. The impact has been profound. Pay increases have tripled - an extra Β£228m in wages for low income Londoners.

The Living Wage continues to be one of the most powerful tools for tackling poverty in London.

⬇️Latest data on poverty by Social Metrics Commission. Shows higher levels of poverty in London than the govt’s measure.

But across both this and the govt’s measure, the long-term trend is clear: poverty in London is actually going DOWN.

Driven, we think, by city-wide gentrification.

Mapping Funding for Social Welfare Advice in London | London Funders Social welfare advice plays a critical role in creating a just, safe and healthy London. Each year thousands of Londoners are supported to address a range of financial, social and legal issues, often ...

New report by London Funders on social welfare advice funding in London.

@trustforlondon.bsky.social has distributed Β£11.5m for social welfare advice since '20. But we can't sustain it & there are huge gaps that should - but won't - be filled by state funding.

18% of Londoners are in deep poverty, a higher proportion than in the rest of England (14%).

Children are the most likely group to be in deep poverty.

In London, nearly *one in four children* (24%) are growing up in deep poverty.

Scope and JRF logos

Govt has committed to Β£3bn cuts to health/disability benefits. But targeting arbitrary savings (set by previous Govt) won't lead to effective reforms that unlock work, and risks deeper hardship for disabled people.

New @jrf-uk.bsky.social / Scope report shows the changes we really need🧡1/12

Gordon Brown: Two-child benefit cap is trapping families in poverty In a rare intervention, the former Labour PM challenged Keir Starmer's decision to keep the two-child limit and benefits cap

1 in 3 children in London are growing up in poverty.

That’s more than half a million children, going without basics & going to school or bed hungry – in one of the wealthiest cities in the world.

Ending the two child limit would help hundreds of thousands of children.

Government told to loosen rules preventing migrants claiming benefits Thousands of migrants - including some who were encouraged to come to fill skills shortages - are living in poverty as they can’t access benefits

Almost 37,000 migrant households in London are living in poverty because they are affected by NRPF - and a further 120,000 are β€œat risk of destitution”.

🧡There's a line of thought that Trump's victory means progressive causes are doomed in the court of public opinion. I don't think that's true, but I do think it shows more thought needs to be given to what ought to be a tautology but infact often isn't - inclusive progressivism.
