I’ve been a college president and higher education needs to embrace diversity of beliefs American universities must balance academic freedom with responsibility while addressing ongoing campus disruptions and restoring order after years of protests.

I would encourage everyone to read this op-ed from E. Gordon Gee, whom Ohio State has hired back as a consultant, to see how authoritarian OSU has become. The post-apocalyptic higher ed hellscape he describes reflects conservative fever dreams & not what’s happening on the vast majority of campuses.

The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened.

This is why we must build back union power.

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%. 

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

Hard to say it better and more evenly than the article below. The NSF really needs our support. What has been happening to NSF incredibly confusing. Defunding and physically disassembling the NSF would be a mistake of epic proportions. No one benefits. We will lose a critical innovation driver.

I just got the official email from the NSF about the drastic cuts and I think the correct translation is "if you are a young researcher who still wants to do science strongly consider leaving the United States if you can." which, really, is not an ideal message to be sending.
