I love my new pudgy children and happy to be able to feed them.

Next year I’ll just have to be more careful about where I plant our herbs 😂

Like if it came down to it: I’d probably qualify for a student visa to get a masters somewhere like Germany and my partner could follow after about a year and that would be the fastest way to immigrate.

It’s something we’ve thought about but right now, not worth it.

But my partner might not be able to find work & we have pets and elderly family here.
Plus, expenses & language barriers to leave.

It’s at best a backup plan if we can no longer live here.
For now we’d be risking literally everything we have to potentially be in a worse position.

It’s a mixed bag.
Some places are easier to immigrate too, but I’ve heard the job market in the sciences is rough in most places I’d be willing to go to atm.
It’s a big risk to drop everything and start over especially when we’d have no support.

If it was -just- me, it would easier.

These guys are black swallowtails so feed on parsley, fennel and carrot.
I’ve got them on parsley since I can get bunches of organic pretty cheaply.

We have some milkweed but no monarchs this year. Planting more next year and fingers crossed!

I have a place where they can spread a bit. May have to put in root boarders.

They are so voracious 🥲

Fortunately local store has plenty of parsley, cheap 😂

A couple look big enough they may pupate soon.

Took 2 years of consistently sharing garden veggies for them to not think us crazy and actually start listening but they were at LEAST willing to talk and try to be cordial.

They are my favorite little visitors. 🥰

Two blue tailed skinks. One is significantly larger than the other. The larger one’s tail is more faded and scarred. Part of it looks as though it may have grown back at some point. The smaller has a very bright, almost metallic looking blue tail.

I am really looking forward to seeing how these guys pupate! I’ve never raised them before (black swallowtails)

These are black swallowtails and they eat parsley.
I couldn’t stomach hurting them so bought them some of their own parsley haha

We did plant some milkweed but it’s very young & no monarchs yet 😭
Next year will be planting more so hopefully then!
