Oh absolutely, it's definitely true for plenty of people that their brand lines up with something about them as people, and they do write what that thing is. I just personally feel pressure to market myself and make my books about certain parts of myself that I don't really want to.

It's definitely part my own inner critic, but I do feel like there's some "your brand must be you" pressure in the author community. Like your books must somehow tie directly to a core part of who you are like sexuality or neurodivergence.

For most, it depends on motivation - manipulation, ashamed, politeness, etc.

Katie in my rock romance, however, HATES lies due to how her ex-fiance was so evilly manipulative. Kyle promises never to lie to her which she greatly appreciates. He thinks it's easy because he's an honest person.

I don't like that asexual people are expected to write ace characters, as though it's a duty.

I'm ace spec, demisexual. Most of my characters are allosexual. That's just what I gravitate toward writing. I don't owe anyone asexuality as my brand just because I'm asexual. I'll write whatever I want.

Asher assumes almost everyone is lying (he didn't used to), and he feels sad but not surprised. Elijah loathes being lied to and it makes him very frustrated as it confuses him and he simply doesn't understand the point of it. The less a lie makes sense, the angrier he gets.
