We are still living in a capitalist dystopia, and the tyranny of the corporations and the banks goes on. Socialism is the solution; everything else is merely a palliative.

I love reading comments on Weibo (translated into English). Chinese people are so warm, polite, respectful, eloquent and civilised – human qualities that are now rare here in the UK and the West. Their posts are really high quality, varied, consistently fascinating and I can read them for hours.

After an underwhelming first year in government, I hope that Mr. Starmer and Labour will remember that they are defined as a democratic socialist party, raise their performance and deliver on these ideals and commitments in their second year in office.

In the Labour Party manifesto Change last year, the Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that we are living in an 'age of insecurity'. He also said that 'politics should be driven by a sense of service to the country' and that 'Britain will respect your contibution and give you a chance to get on'.

Congratulations to England women for becoming European champions again in Basel.

I wish that Daniel Ek, the founder of Spotify, would just publicly admit that he secretly listens to vinyl.

Rest in peace Ozzy Osbourne.

They are my favourite band of all time. It is interesting that they ceased playing live after The Queen Is Dead tour in 1986, and so songs from their final album Strangeways Here We Come (1988) were never played live (to my knowledge). So we would finally get to hear their entire discography live.

I wish that The Smiths would reform, even for just one reunion show on the Sunday night at Glastonbury next year. I am aware of the enmity between Morrissey and Johnny Marr, but the split was in the 1980s and I would like to believe that time heals the wounds.

To anyone who finds it too idealistic I would simply say that there is an historical precedent for every idea listed and many were implemented by Clement Attlee and the post-war Labour government. So it is all really possible -- please do not be too incredulous and try to embrace it where you can.

This is a concise summary of my political opinions, so my own personal manifesto. I have worked on it in increments for many years and would like to share it. The ideology is moderate, democratic socialism which then prefigures a golden era of culture and science. Pages 1 to 3 --

I was hoping for an orchestral tribute to Brian Wilson in the proms schedule, but perhaps it is too soon.

BBC Proms 2025 begins later today with the first night. I like some classical music, especially the 19th century (romantic) and early 20th century eras. Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini Variation 18 by Rachmaninoff is my favourite movement.

It has recently been announced that Rachel McAdams will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her performance in The Notebook is really sweet, like my type of woman, and she is also good in About Time.

I can tolerate a heatwave, it's just the humidity that is uncomfortable.

Please do not use Wikipedia -- it is really flawed, unreliable and synonymous with the dismal era that we currently live in. If you have to use the internet for information then try Britannica instead.

This month celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Live Aid concerts, and this documentary examines the politics behind the event (as usual). But you can also extricate the politics and simply view Live Aid as one of the greatest music events in history, like Woodstock, with an incredible line up.
