Great video. Showing the ambition Cork needs and deserves.
11.08.2025 20:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0๐ Public transport use Ireland use is rising
๐ Journeys up 11% in 2024 to a record 343.6 million trips made.
๐ข Thanks to Green investment in buses, trains & fare cuts, more people are choosing sustainable travel every day.
Transport should support and enable healthy lifestyles, but in Dublin, it doesnโt.
Cities like Paris and Copenhagen have transformed their transport systems to prioritise people and their health, not cars.
Dublin keeps falling further behind.

Team fell asleep in the second half and never woke up. Not the fitting conclusion that this great year of Cork hurling deserved.
Hopefully the drought can end after 21 years...
Finished the book last night. Fascinating from start to finish, a thrilling blend of science and storytelling.
It's incredible how far mammals have come, an evolutionary story even more epic than that of the dinosaurs.
Great to see, even though the pace of improvements to the bus network is slower than a 220 on Western Road.

Would be great if a new system could also show if a bus is currently full. Buses which don't stop because they are full are functionally the same as ghost or cancelled buses.
A very common occurrence on the 220 and other routes in Cork.
Recently started reading The Rise and Reign of the Mammals by @stevebrusatte.bsky.social.
I really enjoyed his first book about dinosaurs and the sequel so far seems to be just as good, if not better. Evolution is truly fascinating to learn about.
After visiting a relative this evening, I spent ages waiting for the next 203 back to the city centre as the previous was a ghost bus. There's no safe alternative of walking down the hill to Togher and getting a bus from there.
Bad planning isn't just inconvenient, it's dangerous.
The area is served by the extremely unreliable 203 bus with no safe footpaths between the stops going in either direction. The picture says it all. It's shocking how the council and Bus Eireann have allowed it to be this bad for years. (2/3)
08.07.2025 20:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Lehenagh Beg has to be one of the worst suburbs of #Cork in terms of planning.
Large housing estates on a hill with no footpaths down it. Cars constantly flying up and down the twisting road, making walking extremely dangerous. There's no shops or services to walk to. (1/3)
It's been a long time since I've had one of these! โ๏ธ #Cork

Denny Ham ad followed instantly by Brady Family Ham ad saying "what you need is a REAL ham". Absolutely brutal ๐คฃ

I agree it's nowhere near ambitious enough.
However, it's understandable why anyone wouldn't expect multiple Luas lines by 2035 when it takes years to get a single bus shelter. The standards of ambition as well as progress in this country are too low compared to others.
Massive reform is needed.
The 2050 Luas map has been circulating for a little while now, but only the Finglas, Poolbeg, Lucan & Bray extensions are within the 2042 GDA transport Plan
We need far more ambition to deliver new Luas lines in Dublin to meet growing demand

Mahonpoint Shopping Centre have announced major expansion plans, including approx 1/3 increase in retail space, offices and apartments, along with a multi-storey car park to replace lost car spaces.

This small Swedish university city has a strong cycling culture, light rail, abundant green spaces, and a people-focused city centre that is enjoyable to walk around without too many cars.
Having been to Utrecht a few years ago, it's exactly what Cork should be aiming for.
Traffic will certainly will get worse as long as there is no confidence in the public transport system and unsafe gaps in the active travel networks. Pro-traffic planning has dominated for too long.
Found an old newspaper from 2019 at home. Inside was an article about problems with the 220 bus route. 6 years later and nothing has changed... #Cork
