Speaker Johnson continues to stall the swearing in of Rep.-elect Grijalva so as to avoid having to deal with the Epstein discharge petition. Why shouldn’t Dems make support for reopening the government contingent on adding to the funding measure a provision mandating release of the Epstein files?

Yes. More broadly: There are no absolute powers in the United States Constitution of *separated institutions sharing powers.* The president is commander in chief...but Congress can and does make all sorts of laws specifying what the military will be and how it will operate.

See the 🧡 for video - this dear man was tear gassed by ICE at the Portland facility. He is a friend of mine and a fellow Quaker, a Navy veteran (he was a war correspondent), and is now in his 90s and uses a walker. Peacefully protesting. But Stephen Miller would have you believe he is a threat. 😑

The thing that makes me the sickest is that these folks don’t even have a shred of compassion. It’s one thing to enforce laws and rules. It’s another to do it gleefully and celebrate the suffering of someone born into poverty and desperation

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

Brett Kavanaugh’s Racial Profiling Opinion Is Looking Sillier By the Day Kavanaugh said that immigration agents β€œpromptly” release people after determining that they are legal U.S. residents. They don’t.

Kavanaugh said citizens who are Latino have β€œno good basis” to think they’ll be racially profiled & β€œcertainly no good basis” to think an unlawful stop is β€œimminent"

Leo Venegas, a citizen who is Latino, was racially profiled & wrongfully detained 2x in 3 weeks

The thing that bothers me so much is not the β€œwe have to enforce our borders and laws.” We do.

It’s the giddy joy and celebration they have at the misery of people far less fortunate.

Always punching down

bangs.

"They was terrified. The kids was crying. People was screaming. They looked very distraught. I was out there crying when I seen the little girl come around the corner, because they was bringing the kids down, too, had them zip tied to each other," Watson said. "That's all I kept asking. What is the morality? Where's the human? One of them literally laughed. He was standing right here. He said, 'f*** them kids.'"

Watson said trucks and military-style vans were used to separate parents from their children. Other neighbors said agents destroyed property to get in the building.

"They had a big, 15-inch chainsaw with round blade on it, cutting this fence down," said witness Darrell Ballard. "We're under siege. We're being invaded by our own military."

β€œFuck them kids.”

That’s literally what an ICE agent said when ICE, the FBI et al. raided an apartment in Chicago, including with a Blackhawk helicopter, separated children from their parents, and zip-tied them to each other.

Seven years ago today, Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was tortured, murdered and then dismembered. And any so-called comedian who can't stand up tonight in Riyadh and do ten minutes on that kind of hijinx and horseplay just isn't worth the Saudi blood money he's being paid.

Dr. Jane Goodall, the legendary animal rights advocate, has died at 91. Dr. Goodall's life was a beacon for progressive activism β€” a bridge between science and moral purpose.
Dr. Goodall stood against corporate greed, environmental destruction, and right-wing denialism of climate science.
