You nailed it Sandy. Power, Wealth and Stardom have become synonymous, and those with it are blind to other issues, including the demise of natural systems. Most people sadly seem dazzled, like rabbits in headlights, and vote for them.

"It is true that I know only one side of the picture from the seven years I spent covering Gaza. I was on the receiving end of Israeli attacks, including being bombed by its air force and fired upon by its snipers, one of whom killed a young man a few feet away from me at the Netzarim Junction."

Reminds me of a Greek tavern on Corfu I was in when a guy arrived with a package rolled in newspaper. He unrolled his prize of roasted goat meat with a look which clearly reeked of 'eat your you hearts out suckers'

In Australia we descibe solar installs by kw, which is how much power the system can deliver at any moment given perfect weather conditions etc. Is kwh the normal description in the US?

I'm beginning to think your country with its penchant for guns is maybe due another war, to rid yourselves of some gun-toting stupid young men. Is this how it works there? Historically that's how it seems.

The Irish saying ' beyond the pale' comes to mind. We've maintained use of our 160 y old glazing as a garden conservatory and are replacing baltic pine for Australian hardwood Spotted Gum. Should last another 160.

This stone tool is over 1 million years old. How did its maker get to Sulawesi without a boat? It’s the first evidence that early humans made a formidable sea crossing from the mainland to Sulawesi at least 1 million years ago.
