Wonderful article. I have 190 photos of moss, taken on my walks through the woods. This one is an especially brilliant green, taken at the end of November, during our rainy season.

Horseshoe Bay, on a warm day after the end of the summer, can be a relaxing place while waiting for the ferry.

And … another day for a swim. I am grateful for every opportunity to swim before the water gets cold.

You were lucky you got power back in 2 hours. It usually takes much longer here.

Oh, wow! That is something that happens on Bowen, especially in winter, regularly, but Vancouver?

Ken Sim and ABC have voted to bury Lucy Maloney’s motion that would have brought six floors and corner stores to side streets across Vancouver, unlocking thousands of family-friendly homes.

I have one of those. Yes, it might save me if there was a fire, but I wish it would not be so ridiculously sensitive.

Ha ha! Oh, many times in my dreams. I like to enjoy attainable pleasures rather than keep dreaming about unattainable ones :)

Nothing beats a late summer swim in crystal clear water at the now almost deserted beach. For me, this beats a tropical, sandy beach any day.

Smoky air continues. Another day to stay indoors with doors and windows closed, air purifiers and air conditioning running. Our new community centre is offering a safe refuge for those not having relief at home, including free N95 masks. - Photo by Karen Baker Mooder.

Heading home now. Air is still very bad. West Vancouver is in the “unhealthy” range and my home on Bowen is situated between two IQAir stations, one “hazardous” and the other “very unhealthy”. I bought a replacement filter for the air purifier to be prepared for more days of bad air.

If ever in Victoria, BC, a nice street to walk down & waste time looking at telephone poles is Cook Street, because some brilliant artist has painted every telephone pole for a kilometre or two with cats.

I don’t know why. But I love it. Every one, both sides of the street. All different. #yyj

Not my intention to dissuade commuters to settle on Bowen. But good to know the realities, bring a book, snacks and patience when commuting by car.

Bus is usually fastest because:

1. Need to line up with a car for the ferry at least 45 minutes before departure.

2. Bus has dedicated lane getting on to Lions Gate Bridge.

3. Return trip by car often has a one sailing wait and ferry terminal congestion with resulting late sailings.

Not really. Biking on the Bowen trail, shaving off maybe 6 minutes. There is a bike shed on the dock in Snug Cove that people from all over the island leave their bikes, scooters etc. before boarding the ferry. Biking from Horseshoe Bay to downtown takes about 40 minutes more than the Express Bus.

Seamless travel today. Hoping your return will be just as smooth, as the upcoming long weekend could present delays compared to this morning. Thursday is the new Friday!

A well written explanation, why governments need to invest in Open Source as a foundation of sovereign public digital infrastructure, at a small fraction of the cost of public physical infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

Beautiful photos. I remember flying directly over Bowen on a return trip, recognizing people’s homes and how excited I was to being so close to home, pointing down and telling everyone around me “this is where I live”.
