i didnt start the team to grind midlevel i started it to have fun and learn about the game,,,,, the whole midlevel thing was a bit of an accident -^-,,

this.. checks out more than i thought it would!

ah.

we ended up taking sets off of teams i didnt think i could win a game against, and i didnt even feel like i was carried through it! such a great experience, im really curious to see if this feeling sticks through my future games!

playing with midlevel players against midlevel players today was so odd but so cool.. i kept dying to a bunch of random stuff, but i could feel myself adapting over the course of the tourney, and by the end of it i felt like i was keeping up!

it might be a little bit evil but this might be my favourite thing to do as an observer

but you can absolutely vod review your own mechanics. most people whiff and think "i should just aim better" but oftentimes it's better to consider *why* you whiffed, since a lot of the time a mechanical mistake is actually a misjudgement of some kind. or, thats at least the way i see it haha

my 2 cents on this are that i think mechanics actually aren't too different from other skills. imo, beyond your ability to physically control your character, aim and movement are primarily still about decision making, just on a much faster timescale. i feel most people just try to grind them out-

anyways, that's my ramble! this stuff has been on my mind for a while at this point. i just believe this is one of the most positive changes we could make for the future of the community!

and to the low level players: join more open skillcap tourneys, fight the best opponents you can, dont be afraid to get your butt kicked, and dont be afraid to talk to higher level players! it's extremely hard to improve past the hardest players that you interact with.

so, to any higher level players out there reading this: say a few things in splatoon stronghold, invite some low level players to your server, scrim a low level team, invite a low level player to a pickup. the more people you lift up now, the more people youll have to play with in the future!

i believe this is the reason why the west is so far behind JP, why our scene is so inactive at top level. the competitive scene in the west has massively grown, but top level hasn't. this is because getting to top level is basically impossible without interacting with people at top level.

as a low level player, i genuinely do not know where top players go to talk or hang out. does plus server have a general chat? is it an elaborate network of DMs and individual servers? how do they find scrims? how do they find teams? where do they go to play 8s? there's no way for me to find out

the "prochara effect" is something people have joked about, but truth is most players have literally never even talked to anyone at high level. these scraps of information are treated like gospel because it's all anybody has access to. high level players and low level players almost never interact.

but it's hard to exactly blame people for this. finding people to fight above your level is extremely hard outside of tournaments. this is because nobody is willing to fight, or even really interact with, people who are below their level.

it's generally standard to look for scrims and tournaments "at your level", and playing against teams who are significantly lower/higher level is uncommon. but when you only fight your level, losing is more demotivating, winning is less exciting, mistakes go unpunished and you still lose anyways.
