So when the team who run SDinGov UX Scotland and Agile Cambridge came through as a sponsor I couldn't be more delighted. It's a super nice crossover of an organisation that have been really kind to me in the past, to speak and attend their events coming to support new work I am shaping.

It feels an important moment to take stock, and look at the past to consider where we are presently.

But, putting on a conference, and trying to keep ticket costs low means you need some help to really get it over the line.

Could we have another Section 28 of sorts, that censors and diminishes the rights of a community? Or is censorship already in play in other ways of LGBTQ+ lives, through policy or more quietly through pressure on organizations that we aren’t clocking at scale yet?

The conference I am running, After Section 28 is an absolute passion project of mine, born out of making a documentary on Section 28 and asking myself the question, like many others, are we witnessing the seeding of the same conditions that led up to the creation of that law?

Anti-rights movements are growing. We need to be ready to face them head on and stop them.

It starts with LGBTQ+ people. It ends with your rights.

Please if you can come, grab a ticket. We're keen to understand numbers so if you've been swivelling, now is the time to buy!

We saw it over 40 years ago, and we're seeing it again.

So what can we learn from those who fought against it? Campaigned for years? Studied what happened? And what can we learn from those facing it again at the frontline of education, reporting, campaigning?

I wanted to host something that shows us the red flags. The inner workings of how money, power, the bad type of press work in combination in really strategic ways to grow moral panics and focus on seeding hate to create fear.

All for the goal of winning power in offices around the world.

We are a month away from running After Section 28

Another LGBTQ+ conference? Maybe. But really, a stark warning of moral panics being stirred that result in the creeping censorship of one minority...then others.
