By getting a fresh perspective, e.g. by involving people unfamiliar with your domain you often arrive at the most innovative solutions.
Key Concepts
1. Breaking Out of Autopilot
2. Challenging assumptions
3. Expertise creates blind spots
4. Cross-Disciplinary Insights
What makes design truly great? Itβs more than just looks. Think usability, accessibility, consistency, and real user value. I break down what βdesign qualityβ means, why it matters, and how to achieve it.

Approaches to #AI safety by @bluedotimpact.bsky.social buff.ly/FBlJBKT
Takeaways
- Multifaceted approach is needed
- Embedding safety as a core value
- Global governance and cooperation
- Proactive planning
- Continuous Improvement

Relevant: #bias in #designSystems buff.ly/CXsuQd2 by @bencallahan.comβ¬
Takeaway:
- Bias makes some feel like the system is build for them & others like it is not.
- You can't avoid bias, but you can mitigate it by including folks from e.g. different disciplines or projects.
On the The broken rhetoric of AI: buff.ly/V9uJMMw
Key point: The way we talk about #AI often overstates its capabilities and misleads us. A more honest conversation is needed to ensure that AIβs real potential and limits are properly understood.
Should we root for #AI? A question many of us have on our mind at the moment: buff.ly/6sX5Pog
The key point: The most valuable work will remain deeply human, requiring skills that AI cannot replicate. The challenge is to harness AIβs power without losing what makes us irreplaceably human.
Space for #innovation is an important topic in our current times where it seems everything is focused on being fast, cheap and slapping #AI on it: buff.ly/kTPaI9B
Innovation has to be part of the process. Over-optimizing for efficiency will kill innovation, which flourishes in the messy & uncertain

Finally a less ridged and more practical system. Hoping that I can finally leave a 4.45:1 contrast in the system :D
This change is supposed to shift focus to fixing important issues first and encourages continuous improvements to a11y.

Inspiring piece on quality buff.ly/lcas1h5
Totally feel it & see the issue with many product that started string, but overtime lost their quality by chasing metrics & business goals.
I like the notion of "Quality is a choice". And the motto: letβs keep making things weβre proud to put our names on
Important aspect to #templates: buff.ly/jxWjL3D
While they help getting started, without questioning and adjusting them you miss finding unique solutions and always end up with an acceptable but not great outcome.
Always focus on the specific situational user need.

Great post by @pjonori.com⬠buff.ly/qf1yzm9 on #designSystem #planning.
Important Takeaways:
- Plan around projects, not people β headcount changes extremely often in DS teams
- Capacity Buffer for support ~20%
- Over-Communicate to stakeholders
- Expect plans to change once execution begins

Don't reinvent the wheel is bad advice according to buff.ly/SDFWXwl
Sometimes it is important to question existing ideas, to arrive at new ones, or learn why the existing ideas are great. However, it is still important recognize when to leverage existing work for greater impact.
Great article on #designSystem #a11y by my colleague @janmaarten.com⬠buff.ly/tucpi4K
Top takeaways:
- Even accessible #components can result in inaccessible products if key details are missed
- User testing and community input are essential to uncover real-world a11y barriers
Will the partnership of Jony Ive and #OpenAI redefine AI hardware?
buff.ly/jRkqAtG
Jony had a huge impact at #apple, but will this translate to AI? If it does, he could make AI more humane, intuitive, and accessible. Setting new benchmarks for AI in the physical world.
Shocked but not surprised by those insights on tech workers condition, if I am honest: buff.ly/Y8DA9IR
I am always surprised because it feels like everyone knows the reasons and yet no company changes anything. I can't imagine burning out employees and rehiring is cheap. Where is the money here?
Can you elaborate on this? Not sure I understand exactly how this is meant. π

The TL:DR
β A design systemβs true value is measured by how well it works in practice, not how perfect it looks on paper.
On #UI #Copy: buff.ly/qwgNM1s
- Long-form: Used for detailed, complex information e.g. docs, help articles
- Short-form: A single, important point e.g. onboarding, product descriptions
- Micro: Quickly inform or influences userβs next step e.g. button, error msg

#AI doesn't make you smarter, it actually makes you dumber, but possibly more productive. For personal growth use AI consciously as a collaborator, not for everything. Keep thinking & solving issues independently of AI or loose those skills.
Totally agree with this buff.ly/GiYAL3q
#AI buttons are bad #UI that exists b/c we didn't create better UI for it. AI shouldn't be enabled, it should naturally mix with our work. We shouldn't stop to let AI work, it should work with us at the same time.
Inspiring article about #designing for #AI: buff.ly/HwgpNjz
Interesting take: Form follows function is harder with AI, because the function is largely unclear. At least until we move more towards integrated and custom-built AIs and away from the one AI to do it all.
This is how @automattic.com thinks about #ui #copy buff.ly/btwcpuZ
One important aspect is that designers write the first draft. Design & copy have to be a union and I have seen way to many designers who don't care and just use lorem ipsum. Content is design responsibility.
