Hey. This edition of #WTAFWednesday is a weird one. Not as weird as that UN speech, or the Tylenol thing, or as insanely bad as what appears to be a fully functioning death camp in Florida. It’s weird because I haven’t slept since Monday night and I’m in Firenze.

Morning. it’s a pretty fucked up #WTAFWednesday given that armed incels are occupying LA and intimidating kids in city parks and ICE is snatching people off the streets of my own small city on the other side of the country. FUCK.

I think starting with a notated melody just traps you on the page. bluegrass is a by ear tradition and you just gotta start playing through over the chord changes until your ear starts picking out the melody. the notes are usually all there in the chord shapes or just a half step away.

just show up and jam. bluegrass lead mandolin is more about the double stops and arpeggios than pure note for note melody. woodshed G, A, D and C major scales and a few double stops to hit when the chords change and jump in the deep end.

I mean, tbh, most of human history suggests that if there is a God, they are definitely a big enough dick to allow that to happen.
