The chart in question was 1970, which any mathematician will tell you is the last year of the sixties.

Seventeen year old me would be just as gobsmacked (a word that had not yet been invented) as the today me at the number of those acts still performing.

I saw a live performance (the only live performance?) at Sheffield City Hall, including Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast, with sausages fried on stage.

Manchego is one of the great cheeses of the world. Eggs in a multitude of forms, tortilla of course, also revueltos a sort of lumpy scramble. The heavy bean and pork stew, Fabada Asturiana, best eaten after hiking on a cold day in the Picos mountain range. Fresh seafood washed down with fino sherry.

Spain has some of the best food. San Sebastian, Gijon & Sanlucar my favourites.

The August Bank Holiday is approaching fast (the last one for a bit, so better make it count!) πŸ₯²

From the dramatic rock formations of Brimham to the peaceful rolling hills of #Wharfedale, Yorkshire has no shortage of places to stretch your legs. Here are four walks worth exploring this weekend:

Likewise, but the greatest invention after central heating is the string that holds your specs around your neck when you take them off.

Third greatest invention is half-moon specs obviously.

Thank you to everyone who has shared or read Future North in its first week!

This week I have started with two pictures. But can you guess what they are and why they are important?

Most of are owned by super rich young men from the Gulf states that are vacationing in London. They swan around the West End parking wherever they fancy. If we are present we applaud when they are impounded. It is actually a bonding experience for Brits of all social classes to join in the applause.

At first glance the shorts look incongruous with the weather, but actually its the boys in long trousers that are incongruous. We didn't wear long trousers until big school (11 years old).

I tried green when I read that the first head of MI6 used green ink, but settled on a very dark brown, it gave my scribbles an antique look. I used to be pretentious, probably still am.

Chamberlain’s back story is interesting. He didn’t fight in the First War, but he was very affected by the losses and the shell-shocked veterans who came back from France. He was determined not to let it happen again, but he made some serious misjudgements.

My handwriting is hopeless these days. Back in the day I would unscrew the lid of my Mont Blanc fountain pen and write notes in coloured (pretentious) ink.

Filofax was marvellous. I went upmarket, yuppie that I was, with a Lefax. Still prefer a scribbled diary to a screen.
