What one must remember about Trump’s god-awful interior decor and architecture is that design & construction of luxury buildings is supposed to be his core competence & the thing that made him rich.

Foreigners are really impressed by our president’s grandeur, sophistication, and taste.

obviously always reread this whenever it pops up but also: never entirely sure what it says about me that it made me really fancy Tom Hollander

This was at Lord’s, but I’ve been at the Oval when a fox stopped play. I wasn’t there for the infamous incident when a crossbow bolt stopped play, but it contributes to the sense that there’s something atavistic about playing conditions in Kennington.

If it had been union, the regulator would have gotten away with it.

My reading of the judgment is influenced by the American cases discussed on the @badlawyerpod.bsky.social podcast. Some of the language has become distressingly familiar from the podcast. The sanction strikes me as stronger than seems to be normal in the US, though cases & states vary.

Haven’t they heard that SCOTUS has ruled that federal bribery statutes don’t apply to anything?

If I were president, I’d walk on the White House roof whenever I damn well felt like it. Which would be often.

For a lot of our history, being an unreconstructed racist was no obstacle to public office. Indeed, it could be essential in some times & places.

Still, I miss the days when this kind of racial-essentialist nonsense was disqualifying.

Jimmy the Greek got canned for shit like this.

Spare a thought for those of us Americans who live overseas. Every time something even crazier happens, the locals expect us to explain it.

"Entitled?" By what argument? If you go with JD Vance's embrace of proportional representation in his innumerate criticism of California's districts, the Republicans already have more Texas seats than they're "entitled" to.

Back in 2003, when Texas pioneered mid-decade re-redistricting for partisan advantage, I was at the Brennan Center. We submitted an amicus brief, I think in support of a stay application, explaining why this was a Very Bad Thing that would lead to tit-for-tat gerrymandering.

Oh, well.

This feels different: an immigration rule that is explicitly targeted at international athletes & exists for the sole purpose of excluding qualified participants from competing.

If the US won’t allow athletes who are eligible ACCORDING TO B THE RULES OF THE GOVERNING FEDERATION, international matches & tournaments shouldn’t be held there.
