Agency colleague provided some links about the specific ways neurodivergence impacts the Black community:

At the top is a black-and-white photo of the author's teen son squeezing her cheeks so she will make a raspberry sound with her mouth. Both are wearing hats, outdoors. She is wearing dark sunglasses.

Underneath, text reads,

"When parents publicly complain about their autistic kids, focusing on how awful autism is for the parentsβ€”and not on the tragedy of autistic kids' needs being overlooked? That is an avoidable cycle of misery for both the parents AND the kids."

Underneath, smaller text reads, "@ThinkingAutism" and "tinyurl.com/OpposingSevereAutismLabel"

What I want most for my autistic son: Other people accepting him on his terms, and welcoming him into the communityβ€”so I can feel less anxious about his safety and well-being as he moves through the world now, and also in his future without us by his side.

All-caps black text reads, "It is not autism itself that leads to a poor quality of life, but instead, a lack of social support and acceptance." The words "autism" "social support" and "acceptance" are in red.

I wrote an award-winning memoir called "Mending Together, Building Together" which is about how I raised my aggressive autistic son while dealing with my own neurodivergence and complex PTSD. Check it out!

I wrote an award-winning memoir about raising my autistic son as a mom with C-PTSD, but there is a much deeper message within the pages. "Mending Together, Building Together" is really about the human condition, and the importance of communication in all its forms.
