Been busy this week preparing our Bud and Blossom Memorial Garden for #HMD2025. Taking part in ‘Light the Darkness’ & 80 candles for 80 years at 5pm, when the garden will be lit up purple.

Exactly, my son was first year on the new spec so never studied it. He chose to do his EPQ on it instead. We managed to fit it in for a few students this way.

Having taught this topic for years at GCSE on the old spec I’ve really missed it since 2018 spec change. We’ve tried to drip feed Irish History into KS3 curriculum through meanwhile elsewhere, but it’s not the same.

Really looking forward to it too, and talking about all things extra curricular to enhance your curriculum.

Agreed. It is in the delivery, didn’t we go into teaching because we are enthusiastic and passionate about our subjects and wanted to share it and inspire others. This is why it is so difficult for non specialists.

Agree, quote I’ve had for 3 days in Krakow is astronomical. We are a small school so it’s always difficult to get numbers to make trips viable it’s going to be impossible with such high prices.

Year 11 after school intervention timetable starts next week. Made the move to #OCRBHistory last year so don’t yet have a stash of intervention material. If anyone has any intervention/ revision booklets & resources for Making of America they would be willing to share I’d be really grateful

On my to do list too. Open Evening tonight and Open Morning on Saturday, so this week is manic.

These pictures are a classic for introducing the Industrial Revolution. We updated the lesson with the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony too. That’s a bit of classic too now as the students were barely born.

1 hour. 1 lesson after lunch. 4 lessons before lunch with a break after the first two lessons.

This is super cheeky as Pete has already kindly shared loads of PH resources, but how do you get access to the shared drive? Moved to OCR last year & never taught America before on any other spec, so is definitely a weak area for us.

At KS3 I want the students to focus on the quality of their historical writing and selecting relevant information for that on their ‘cheat card,’ It’s not about how many facts they can remember without any prompts.

KS3 students know the assessment question at the start of the enquiry, each lesson is building towards that. Have a prep lesson prior to the assessment, they are allowed to prepare & use a cheat card in the assessment. Flash card with ‘their’ relevant information so they can focus on quality writing
