Remember when the DHS suggested deporting 100 million people?

What would 100 million deportations do to the economy?

TL;DR ICE gunman in his hotel room was adjusting the backstrap on his Glock, which was loaded and had a round chambered. Gun fired, bullet tore through his shirt, went through the wall and into the next room. No injuries.
Did you hear about the case where the off duty DHS gunman accidentally shot a hole through his sweatshirt and his hotel room wall? Somebody on Mastodon posted the police report; Iβll dig it up.

08.02.2026 21:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now that I think of it BoT also has a suicide/sacrifice theme. βIn a different reality, I could have called you friend. β¦ Just one more duty to perform.β
07.02.2026 04:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not worth quibbling about exact order. BoT is definitely in there. IMO so is Doomsday Machine. As a youngster I was scared by the planet killer, but Deckerβs sacrifice permanently lodged itself into the back of my head. (You and I had an exchange about suicide on the birdsite.)

I loved chatting with Oracle Java developer advocate, and friend of the show, Billy Korando in this week's episode of a Bootiful Podcast!

28.01.2026 00:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good article. While itβs popular to call ICE/CBP fascists or nazis or thugs or whatever, these are easily dismissed as mere name-calling. Instead we should use descriptive terms used for similar groups in other countries, such as βparamilitary forcesβ or βextremist militiaβ or βmasked gunmenβ.

19.01.2026 07:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No-Name on the Fish Pier? I visited Boston a lot on business trips. Once, I took a cab to No-Name and asked for a receipt. The cabbie wrote βNo Nameβ and the wrong date. I figured this would take too much explaining so I threw away the receipt and filed my expense report with βreceipt lostβ.
19.01.2026 07:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.
The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.

I was reminded that on January 8th I celebrated 25 combined years at #SunMicrosystems and @Oracle focusing on multiple Java projects, many of which address the community.

After working on ZGC for a decade, Iβm happy to announce that Iβm publishing a book about ZGC in JDK 25. It ships 22 May (www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/1...) and is being published by Taylor & Francis. You should get a copy if you want to learn more about ZGC. Itβs available for pre-order now.
