I figured the Scandinavian example would be contentious since it's so uneven. What I didn't expect was how much of a hot button saying Russian and Ukrainian were mutually intelligible would be. Although in retrospect, of course it was!

The first three #English ordinal #numbers follow completely different derivations because nothing in this #language can be simple.

The remaining ordinals follow the same derivation as "third"; they're an inflected form of their matching cardinal number.

I also disagree that ums and ahs add nothing to monologues. I'm a comedian and ums and ahs can contribute to a more natural, relaxed, relatable delivery which modern audiences tend to prefer. Of course, if you overdo it then you appear unprepared or not confident.

I disagree that pauses add nothing to monologues. Pauses can have huge rhetorical effect. Listen to JFK or Obama. However, that's probably not what you meant.

While I advocate for #English #spelling reform, there are some good reasons why it hasn't happened yet.
