Some terrible losses in crime fiction this past year. Ken Bruen, Daniel Woodrell, and now James Sallis.

Greg has a lot of heart. His store was ransacked during the BLM demonstrations a few years ago. Never faltered in his support of what is right. Support his bookstore,DreamHaven books.

Really broken up over the news of Woodrell’s passing. All his work is wonderful but my fav is Give Us A Kiss. I bought dozens of remaindered copies to give away to friends unfamiliar with his work. If you haven’t read him, do yourself a favor and fix that. RIP to a master.

Explaining to my wife that I cannot simply “read the books I’ve already bought and haven’t read” like some kind of peasant.

Well no luck. I thought this was a complete compilation of his work in F&SF but as the back cover states it only contains all his full page cartoons, reviews and fictions. So it might have still appeared there.

That helps. I have a compilation of his work in F&SF that was published a few years back. I’ll check it for you.

This one came to mind immediately, but it’s not quite what you described.

I wasn’t familiar with Jordan Harper’s work prior to this banger of a short story. I immediately went out and got his short story collection Love And Other Wounds and devoured it. Working my way through his novels now. Don’t make the same mistake. Highly recommend anything this guy does.

That sounds a lot like this book albeit with a different title. The Devil Thumbs A Ride features the same intro by Ed Gorman and Dow Mossman. It reprints all(?) of Gifford’s film review columns from Mystery Scene magazine. I can attest that it’s well worth the time of any fan of noir films.

I think my wife subconsciously adopted the Patty McCormack character as a role model as a child. We made it through 45 years together despite this obvious character flaw.

Norm Partridge is a damn good writer who hasn’t been writing much recently. He had a new story in the overlooked anthology The Drive-In Multiplex. He was white hot in the late 90s & early 00s. Have a feeling we will be see some new work from Norm when he retires from his day job shortly.

Damn don’t we all feel this way to an extent? But life is a journey, you wouldn’t be the person you are today without going through the shit of early times. Myself I was in my 30s until I realized what made me an angry fearful shit. Like the movie Defending Your Life, you need need to beat fear
