Not really because of figure skating but the phrase always reminds me of the fact that hockey players also have massive quads and this picture of Martin St Louis’ quads lives rent free in my head

honestly tired of trying to convince people that trump's immigration policy is not really about violent undocumented immigrants or even just undocumented immigrants, but immigrants in general and even non-white people more broadly.

You have just under 24 hours to register to speak or submit a statement opposing Evan Duncan’s Charter-free zones.

Choose Executive Policy Committee from the drop-down, and write in β€œ7. Safe Access to Vulnerable Infrastructure By-law” for the item you oppose.

Manitoba an ill province with soaring rates of respiratory virus and measles, says chief doctor | CBC News Manitoba's health system is inundated with surging flu rates and an ongoing measles outbreak, the province's chief public health officer says.

Another day, another vaccine-only plea from public health that ignores the reality that the out-of-control spread of these viruses can be mitigated with respirator masks and proper ventilation.

Good news: there's no durable majority for fascism

Bad news: we are locked in a life or death struggle against fascism and our victory depends on people with less understanding of how the world functions than my 14-month old

Letter to the WFP from Andrew Kohan re: proposed protest bylaw (1/2)

"I was so alarmed by the abrogation of essential Charter rights described in your article that I was compelled to read the actual language of the proposed bylaw, which has only increased my dismay.

Coun. Evan Duncan describes the bylaw as restricting hateful protests near sensitive sites, but the plain language of the bylaw goes much further. Its definition of β€œnuisance demonstrations” includes not only those which express β€œobjection or disapproval towards an idea, action, person or group based on or related to any specified characteristics,” but also those which merely β€œobstruct… the passage of pedestrians or motor vehicles without an applicable permit issued by the City,” or use β€œamplifiers or microphones,” without an applicable permit."

"To incur a $5,000 fine per person, there is no requirement that such a demonstration target one of the long list of types of designated facilities, only that it is within 100 metres of one, at any time of day. A community member created a map using the city’s own land use data and calculated that this prohibition extends to nearly 17 per cent of all Winnipeg land area. It variously proscribes all such protests or marches on every university campus, along most of Portage Avenue and much of Main Street, outside the premier’s constituency office, on a portion of the legislature grounds, and even, incredibly, the courtyard of city hall itself.

The bylaw is incredibly over-broad in its language, and its carve-outs for labour action paltry in comparison to legislation in other jurisdictions. I urge council to reject this dangerous overreach, and contemplate in whose interest they entertain such casual disregard for our cherished freedom of expression.

Andrew Kohan"

I fear that the rhetoric around this is going to get very ugly very quickly because of the age we're living in.

This is not the USA. School shootings are not normal nor usual. Alt-right social media influencers jumping to US’s β€œnorms” and using tragedies to advance their agendas with unconfirmed details are either grossly incompetent or nefariously sinister, and are inflicting real damage to our communities.

everything this admin does falls into the "really stupid" bucket or the "insanely sinister" bucket. by default most stuff goes into the really stupid bucket. while putting a really stupid item in the insanely sinister bucket looks bad, putting an insanely sinister item in the stupid bucket is worse

Highway filled with car congestion

Highway filled with car congestion

If you widen that highway

you won’t reduce emissions

or congestion.

What you WILL do

is spend a lot of public money

to induce even more cars

emitting even more GHGs and pollution

in the same or worse congestion

with people still demanding that you widen the highway.

Period.

Cmon now guys. If any Dem says anything besides shut down until this is all gone then there's no need for federal government at all. These are concentration camps. If you're too scared to say so then you're part of the problem.

Hating the Game The cooperation game, the murder game, and acting in good faith with people you know are acting in bad faith.

The reality is America is a huge multicultural multilingual country, not a white ethnostate, and venomous white supremacist MAGA crybabies lose it whenever that reality becomes unignorable. We should always seek to increase, not decrease, their discomfort. www.the-reframe.com/hating-the-g...

The fact that Bad Bunny's halftime show made white bigots angry and feel excluded is A GOOD THING. It's one of the best things about it. It's not a problem to solve. It's a solution to pursue. Bigots *should* feel excluded. We should find *more* ways to celebrate the reality of USian diversity.
