One thing that AI could be great for in history is programming its outputs to propagandize the past for an authoritarian government. See: Musk's efforts to manipulate Grok's outputs

All you'd have to do is have the proprietors of major AI companies cooperate with (or capitulate to) said government!

There are some young possibilities, though they are pretty Milwaukee/SE Wisconsin-based so might have difficulty carrying the state. Evers really kinda came out of nowhere, from the education side of things.

Dude worked miracles in a state government hopelessly shackled by a death cult. That's a tough loss.

Call it what it is, extortion. If SCOTUS hadn't already rubber stamped this behavior, they'd be hitting nearly every specified mark in a RICO case.

Seen in the first issue of The Hockey News (Oct. 1st, 1947), p. 5: "[NHL veteran Bobby] Bauer has left the Bruins to help his father-in-law manage a skate manufacturing business in Kitchener, Ontario..."

Wonder how that worked out for him.

Another example of something our media should be doing. Say what you will about The Daily Show, but they were ALWAYS better than any other media organization at video archiving and searching to expose the truth behind statements like this.

Great, thank you! I think I accidentally memory-holed what the phrases in the legend meant. All good, memory restored...but also, super interesting graph.

Micah, would you be willing to post and explain this graph somewhere?* I kinda understand what I'm seeing but not totally, and it feels significant. (My apologies if you already have, in which case please let me know where).

There really shouldn't be an interview with any administration official that doesn't sound like this.

Without exaggeration, he is likely the most litigious, lawyered-up human in legal history. In a country where there are severely limited checks on the judiciary, his legal teams have helped him rig the system in his favor. He is, at this point, a king.

Been waiting for this for quite awhile...long enough for it to become ever-more allegorical of a contemporary fascism

Folds: If we’ve been told our whole lives that we can’t spend money on the arts because they’re not importantβ€”then why was taking over the Kennedy Center and the arts the first thing they did?

It is extremely important. It’s the bedrock of self-expression.

We never finished Reconstruction, and that’s why we got Jim Crow. We never finished the Civil Rights Movement, and so now we’re getting Jim Crow 2.0. There is nothing as American as anti blackness.

One thing I learned about Score way later is that they spent extra time getting well-framed, picturesque shots. Upper Deck was about angle and capturing extreme action.

For anybody holding out that Trump is some sort of mastermind, you can give up now. He has been, and always will be, a mediocre mind propped up by lawyers and sycophants.

Yep, you'd definitely shelter him, so much so you wouldn't want to do the same with any other of your defensemen. 3rd pair + heavy PK usage has fit him well enough.

27.06.2025 00:01 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I read the OP a bit differently. But considering the "shift for shift" part...Marner has more shifts! So the market for him is $12-14m, and $8-9m for Ehlers. Ehler's future team will see if they can stretch him from 17 mins/game to 19 mins/game (mostly PP, I would guess, since he was often PP2).

On that front, even some of the successful playoff teams are buying on that idea of bigness and shot-blocking. But the best teams know that you can't overload on that idea, it's only effective when cast alongside capable puckmovers. FWIW, an argument can be made for Schenn; Stanley not so much.

Re: Nikolaj Ehlers...the PP1 thing was the most egregious, consistently dumb usage all the Jets coaches were guilty of doing. I think there's a common coach mentality that a player has to "earn" PP1 time through their ES play, but that relies on coaches to be willing to put more faith in the data.

Certainly speaks to the possibility, though we get all kinds of wacky usage data out of playoffs/tourneys.

26.06.2025 23:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yup. Kyle Wellwood is an (albeit extreme) case in-point; that said, I think part of Micah's argument is that contract + what you're getting is going to be optimal for Ehlers as your free agent signing. Welly was a fantastic 3rd liner + PP2 for 1-1.5m per year.
