I am at a conference of Indigenous management scholars in Naarm (Melbourne) this week, which is food for the soul, otherwise I would be joining the strike action back home in Aotearoa, kia kaha ki a koutou, ka nui te aroha ki a koutou, I am with you in spirit!

A photo I took in Copenhagen in July: “Spectacular and innovative in the true sense of the words. That’s CopenHill. The artificial skiing slope and the recreational hiking area opened in fall 2019, built on top of the new waste management center”
Why can’t we have political visionaries like this;

I sat in the spa at the local pool listening to a brash young man moaning about cyclists, ‘always coming onto our side’, how he’d like to just open the car door. As long as psychopaths like that walk among us, a viable cycling network is a pipe-dream.

Quote of the day from Philodopher Quotes, reminds of all the dear friends I have found over the decades who have loved me as much for my weaknesses as my strengths.

“It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.”

Dame Joan part 2: Over the years I spent a bit of time with Dame Joan, who was the first Pākeha ally I ever knew well. Someone fiercely proud of their own identity, capable and willing to learn about and love another culture, and devoted to addressing inequities, kua hinga te totara, dear Joan

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Dame Joan Metge this week. I was too sick to farewell her in person, so this is my wee poroporoakī to her, into the ether. I first met her in the 80s when she came to do a lecture on anthro and ended up giving me some hue she had grown, from her boot!

I just cancelled Disney+, noting the irony of the company that created Star Wars and the magnificent Andor, has now become part of the empire (sigh)!

Good morning world, quote of the day, with thanks to Philosophy Quotes:

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.”

— Carl Jung (1875–1961), “Memories, Dreams, Reflections”

Let’s go kindle a light!

I love this from Philosopher Wisdom, lucky I am not one of those unfortunates!

“How do we get a mass of exhausted regular people, fed up with politics, to engage and organise with a bunch of earnest nerds - that’s us, guys - to win power against some of the most well-funded and unscrupulous industries and political actors?”

Day 2 in Copenhagen, Helsingor - Elsinor. Home to Kronburg Castle, the closest point to Sweden. Shakespeare used the castle, renaming it Elsinor, as the setting for Hamlet. In the museum, an exhibition about society and punishment. This banner stood out!

I just arrived in Copenhagen today. Such an interesting country. I love it’s viking origins, much like our Māori culture of seafaring travellers, and its egalitarian foundations. Am looking forward to the first Academy of Management meeting in Europe. I think this will be interesting!
