On the "three mantras of Long DH" (Futurebuilding DH) from Johannes Burgers:
1) "go slow and build things",
2) "teamwork makes the dreamwork, but nagging helps" (people-first proj management),
3) "love your data like you love yourself" (tech changes, data doesn't; set your data free!). #ACH2025

A long shot, but if yall know of donors/grants that could contribute $ and/or space to help us keep Charlottesville's community letterpress printshop+book arts program in town, please let me know? (Where I've printed ~weekly since last summer, defunded+closing in June πŸ’”; even partial $ could help)

Many data sets held by NOAA are being "retired" in may, including datasets relevant to ocean sciences and climate. If you have need for these data, or are an archivist, it would be good to download this now. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docume...

Check out this op-ed writing workshop that ACH is running, and if you want to summon up some data to reference, look through impact.ach.org for updated info on canceled NEH grants.

An email is on its way out to our members regarding strategies for navigating cuts to federal grant funding. However, we wanted to share that information here as well. We have aggregated information for actions regarding NEH grants, which include broader strategies as well.

Vaccination as a cause of autismβ€”myths and controversies Despite significant progress in the study of the epidemiology and genetics of autism, the etiology and patho-physiology of this condition is far from being elucidated and no curative treatment current...

Vaccines do not cause autism. If you need a quick reference to studies that disprove this relationship:

Hand holding watercolor painting of dark pink flowers in a loose, watery style.

Last night's loose, flowy watercolor. I am rapidly running through my paper. Maybe it's time to pick up 2 watercolor sketchbooks (one for me, one for my daughter).

A hand holding paper with dark pink watercolor flowers in a loose, messy style.

There's nothing like loose, messy watercolor to help me let go of perfectionism. Do I like it? I don't know. It was fun to do, and I want to do more.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted more winter, but at least that is better than the time I drove home on a Groundhog Day only to find groundhog roadkill on the road to my apartment.

End of Term Web Archive – Preserving the Transition of a Nation | Internet Archive Blogs

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. Are there academic libraries doing outreach events for online students? If so, I'm really curious to learn more! Want to increase our outreach (instructional, but also fun and supportive stuff) to online students so it looks more like what we do for our students on-campus.
