Between 2009 and 2015, poverty in Mozambique fell by 10 percentage points. However, by 2020 these gains had been more than erased.

This setback is due to both recent shocks such as well as persistent structural challenges.

What kind of #policies do we need for forcibly displaced persons (FDP)?

While assistance is crucial to meet their basics needs, the long-term policy approach should define a path out of aid dependency by providing them with mobility, work options and inclusive education.

Thanks to Shanta Devarajan, Ahmed Mushfiq Mobarak, Alejandra Botero, Mulualem Desta and Aisha Dicko for this great discussion on the data and evidence needed to inform a development solution to forced displacement.

We cannot address what we cannot measure. Data is crucial.

Why is “multidimensionality” a key concept for poverty reduction?

Multidimensional measures of poverty not only describe different types of deprivations experienced by poor households, but can serve as a tool to coordinate policy action to jointly address those deprivations.
