Looking for a little boost to help meet your scholarly writing goals this spring semester? We still have a few spaces available in our spring 2026 cohort of Directed Draft!
Directed Draft includes four weekly group writing sessions (M-Th), two of which are guided by me or @micharahder.bsky.social.
That means participants get access to on-the-spot feedback from an experienced developmental editor twice per week for the full eight weeks!
Combined with one-on-one coaching meetings that help you identify concrete strategies to tackle whatever challenges you most about writing, Directed Draft is designed to help you set—and meet—ambitious but achievable writing goals.
Our next session starts in January, 2026. Register today!
When you encounter issues like this during a group writing session, we will meet you in a breakout room to quickly troubleshoot whatever is getting in your way, aiming to have you back to writing—with new momentum—in just a few minutes.
Getting sucked into a lit review rabbit hole, but not sure how to dig your way out? We can help! Feeling uncertain about the best way to frame your critique of other scholarship? We can help! Rewriting your intro over and over instead of digging into the body of your article? We can help!
@karendewartmcewen.bsky.social and I are developmental editors and writing coaches who specialize in tailored support for scholars at all stages of their careers. In our group sessions, we don't just tell you when to start and stop writing—we are available for on-the-spot writing support.
What makes Directed Draft different from other writing groups?

The NYT "poor real estate owners and their sad empty office buildings" is making the rounds today, but don't sleep on this Kanaka-silencing claim that Maui "locals" want their tourism back after the fires. Sure, more extraction, colonialism, and more long-distance carbon-emitting flights will help 🙄
the best kind of research assistant!
Any rule about how you are "supposed to" read anything is a lie! An exclusionary and often ableist one! Read it once or a million times. Skim it or spend hours on every page. Visual or audio. Read however brings you pleasure, however works best for the meeting of the book and your brain.
