It was a wonderful reading with so many great people! Glad I could join and see what Stanchion is all about. Andrew Huffman has been telling me great things!

Your Best and Brightest | Tali Beckwith-Cohen We run clubs, we start projects, we advocate for ourselves and for fellow students. We have watched the most documented genocide in history play out, have watched our international friends be targeted...

“We are what makes Barnard, and you have chosen to abandon us.” New online: a speech by Tali Beckwith-Cohen, written for a disciplinary conduct meeting at Barnard College, where she was charged for participating in anti-ICE demonstrations.

Submissions will open for one full hour, so insofar as you're racing, you're doing so against the clock rather than each other.

BUT. We're HAD, so we gotta mix it up.

Let's make that hour middle of the night! (At least for me here on the east coast. And, really most of us in the US.) Y'all gotta stay up late, or wake up early, or wake up in the middle of the night just to prove to us you love us, or be international (I hope this time works for the international skullers?).

Which is all to say...
Submissions will be Thursday, April 24, 4am – 5am ET.

A few specifics:
No theme
600 words max
Any/all genre ok
For poems and reeeeal short stuff, you can send two, but make 'em short!

You (probably, hopefully) know the deal.I am going to try to get through as many as possible, as fast as possible, but its a timed call rather than quantity so I have no idea how many I'll get, so getting through everything might spill over into the next day or two... or longer? We'll see!

I would love to see some of you here! I love the poems in this workshop, and I've been told that previous, much shorter versions of it have yielded some published poems by attendees. Only $35 for 3 hours of discussion, notes, prompts, and generative work.

Urgent Mutual Aid Ask!

An ANMLY team member became unhoused last December. He's finally secured a safe place to live, but needs help with his security deposit

GFM is too slow & we don't want him to lose this opportunity. His shelter shuts down at the end of the month!

Goal: $700

sometimes, I just want to see if I can
still be the poet who hangs the rhyme
on the rims of their lines, rather than
twisting the beats in breaths primed
to express the peel, the oils like a man
I don't want to see most of the time

Oh I really like this idea of the lines as cocktails and the different rhymes as different garnishes

Thrust into unemployment, axed federal workers face relatives who celebrate their firing Scrambling to replace their health insurance and to find new work, some fired federal workers are running into another unexpected unpleasantry: Relatives cheering their job loss.

The nature of a cult is that it will turn you against your own family. Your loved ones will cheer as you are led off to the camps because hurting even you is what is necessary to bring on the glorious nation. apnews.com/article/trum...

Always a joy to see @landrewhuffman.bsky.social pieces out in the world. They showed me this piece of few months back and it wows me just as much today!
I think I've at least partly been writing towards this piece since I read it. Andrew is one of those friends I think I'm often writing towards!

the desolation of "gone /" and what reads to me as the soft comfort of "/ where I will go." really feel to be like two gravitational forces tugging on each other across that space

Wow, both sides of that break work incredibly. Like in the truth of this grief, they carry the weight of two planets

Dreams that definitely would have been nightmares as a kid are some of my favorite dreams as an adult

Growing up I used to have plenty of nightmares. Those dreams never really stopped but now they feel more like watching a suspense movie.

Amusement parks and fairs are two of the most common settings for my dreams. I can think of maybe a dozen or so amusement park dreams in the last couple months.

I think that vibe is often a bit forlorn but that could be more the feeling of waking up and wanting to be back in the park.

Sending love! The painting on the urn and the way the penny is framed are beautiful.

Sometimes being a creative writing prof is writing stuff like “Really loved this image!” Or “Keep going with this for a few more lines” to things like murder scenes 😂

Most of my poems want to be ghost stories lately.

Ghost stories. Ghost messages. Ghost parties. Ghost symposiums

I need to resist reducing my mom to her death--both in my writing and my memory, which go hand in hand.
