The upside is ultimately I think we're here to move elite opinion.

How much did others benefit from this overbuilding?

NWK-JSQ suspended. I don't understand not just running a JSQ-WTC shuttle. Why is PATH historically so opposed to the practice, e.g., during all the recent track work between NWK-JSQ?

I dunno, I kind of enjoyed having daylight to do stuff. The last storm I came in the night before (and had to move up my flight), this one I did Friday night and had two days at least.

Not going that far, but at least the start of the storm was delayed to later, and the wind projections have been massively downgraded. They're saying 20-25 here now, when yesterday it was 50s. Although maybe that's bad, do we want peak snow falling during daylight where it's more likely to melt?

It does seem like the wind is weaker than expected.

πŸš‰ NJ Transit is shutting down buses and light rail at 6PM.
We'll be updating you throughout the storm and at JCNJ.ORG/ADVISORY.

Stay safe. #JerseyCity #WinterStorm #JCReady

Nationally, states have seized school operations in more than 100 locales, including Detroit, Philadelphia and Chicago. A broad 2023 study by the Brookings Institution, a Washington, D.C.,-based nonpartisan research group, found that takeovers β€œon average do not improve student academic performance in math or reading,” though they appeared to have boosted budgeting and long-term financial health.

@njspotlightnews.org suggests (left) that the state takeover of Lakewood school district won't work, citing a study finding that the avg ST didn't improve test scores.

However, that study (right) found that it worked in Camden, the only NJ district studied.

Oregon's state senate just voted to ban unfunded inclusionary zoning, recognizing that it makes housing *less* affordable, not more affordable.

The snow isn't sticking yet. It's like we're on death row and got a 12 hour stay.

Unfortunately firefighters are basically like this everywhere in the US. Reflexively oppose pedestrianization with zero self reflection or curiosity. They can only conceive of working in Parsippany.

CBP and ICE remain funded and have emergency authorization to keep paying. So in terms of immediate term wins, what does the shutdown accomplish?

This chart is obviously from someone who hates heat much more than cold. My place is pretty new and well insulated, it's usually fine when the temperature is between 30-70 F, which is more than I can say about other places I live. But it has electric heat/AC, which is $$$.

I was gone for about a week during this billing cycle, but used a lot more juice than the previous month because I came back right in time for the storm from hell. However, the cost is flat MOM because of "Elec Gen/Cap Cost Deferral Recovery", which means I'll pay more later.

Damn, Happier Grocery is PACKED. I guess the ultra luxury market in Lower Manhattan is still underserved. Not a place to go to for bread and milk, lol. Unless it's organic, non-pasteurized RFK Jr. nonsense.

There's a spectrum of enforcement.

1. MN police state
2. Random raids
3. Obama I-style deporting non-violent criminals
4. Only deporting violent criminals
5. Abolition

The public is at maybe 3.5.

There's a logic to, if they won't follow the constitution and dare the courts to stop them, so should we. Although, it's calvinball, the Supreme Court would slap this down very quickly if it passed.

This is crazy to me, because wouldn't Waymo win a popular referendum with 60%+?

Similarly, I doubt New Yorkers would vote to ban all hotels, as is current practice.

Not just about housing, basically everywhere that has a small airport sees it as a menace that they're desperate to close.
