Rewrote the opening to Novel #2. It's definitely catchier now. I doubt this is the permanent opening but it feels like I'm on the right track #AmWriting

All I'm saying is that I'm currently harvesting my potatoes, my parsley's looking great, and if I were the one to discover bog butter right now... @darthbluesky.bsky.social

Having not had quite enough sleep this weekend, I strongly identify with the drawing in this medieval manuscript.

Incredibly important report on AI training & copyright released today by the European Commission. It gets lots right, slamming the idea that creators should be required to opt-out of having their works used for free by AI companies.

It says:

- Generative AI must be based on opt-in consent

I loved the neon lights museum in Warsaw. Might be up your alley! It's quite small, and very doable.

A symbolic picture of the Creation; a circle divided in three with banners of text surrounding it. The upper half depicts the sun, moon and stars; the two lower halves depict the sea with fish and the land with trees, horses and humans, respectively. From AM 76 8vo, f.91v

Working away on the eternal question of marginalia, today I'm admiring these tiny fish in the sea, and horses with trees and people that someone drew around 1470. #Medieval

Every time a friend has a kid, I give them Wanda Gág's Millions of Cats (and without fail, they've never heard of it)!

What's a book—or series of books—that you loved as a kid that almost nobody seems to read or even remember nowadays?

Giant bonfire, flames billowing in the wind. The back of one of the heads is Mette Frederiksen.

An archer tried to light the bonfire with flaming arrows but, due to the thunderstorms, the fire didn't take. Instead, the fire department had to row out and use a flamethrower. An absolutely top experience #Midsummer

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I think people misunderstand translation as an exact word-for-word replacement, when instead there's a whole history around how to pick which words and use what specific connotations in which circumstances. There's no replacement for an experienced translator!
