As a con man, he's aware that those ideas don't have to be good or safe or useful. They simply have to be loud and attention-grabbing.

Sixth, he's aware his audience is largely American, white, male, and far-right. We also know that he believes in the antisemitic, racist Great Replacement Theory.

So a big part of his desire for a population explosion is actually a localized scheme to get far-right domestic extremists to procreate.
