Today the order banning #PalestineAction as "terrorists" came into effect. But they are not terrorists. They are protesters trying to stop a genocide. This is a "first they came for ..." situation. Unless we stand in solidarity against this assault on our freedom, they will pick us off one by one.

Screenshot of form on the UK Met Office website. Text reads: "You can provide up to 5 storm names in the boxes below.
Storm Name: [a user has filled this in with "BigOil"]
Storm Name (optional): [filled in with BP]
Storm Name (optional): [filled in with Equinor]
Storm Name (optional): [filled in with Exxon]
Storm Name (optional): [filled in with Shell]
So the UK Met Office is inviting people to suggest up to 5 names for storms.
And apparently lots of people have been suggesting "Storm Bigoil", along with BP, Equinor, Exxon & Shell...
This is obviously appalling & definitely not to be emulated via this link: www.metoffice.gov.uk/forms/name-o...

#WriteCBC tip from @gabriellegriffiths.bsky.social: Deftness and specificity can tell a reader more than reams of description. When you walk into a room or meet a new person, it will often be a small detail that stands out. Learn to hone in on these specifics and use them to your advantage.

I entered #WriteCBC when Greater Sins was in its very early days...delighted to be coming full circle and setting June's task!

A person with long lie lies in a hollow in the ground in a curled up position. There are tree roots either side of them and in the distance fields and a wooden building. The image has 3 colours, it's predominantly black, with yellow used for the fields and roots and white for the person and title.
#GreaterSins by @gabriellegriffiths.bsky.social is a darkly tense and atmospheric novel set during WWI. Lizzie finds a woman's body in the peat bog, creating a catalyst for superstition, rivalry and reflection in an isolated community.

If you cannot call it what it is when all in a week: a government removes every mention of a group of people, destroys information about them en masse, bans their discussion in schools, restricts their ability to travel and starts seizing and refusing their official identification, when will you?

Some thoughts while returning on the Eurostar from Paris.
1. It’s a cliché but nonetheless true that the intellectual culture in France reminds us what we are missing in the UK. 🧵
