Thinking of @versobooks.bsky.social, this is one of my favourite titles: Byung-Chul Han’s Psychopolitics.
Short and accessible in style of writing, the book develops an original theory of Big Data and a lucid phenomenology of emotion.
The quest for security “led to a preoccupation with preventing terrorism by profiling passengers according to facial expressions, body language and emotional demeanour ...
... ‘It wasn’t just that the TSA was going to invade your privacy – you were going to behave as though you liked it, too’.”
“Be careful about showing annoyance or any other ‘negative’ trait.”
For @lrb.co.uk, Jackson Lears writes about our post-9/11 world and @richardbeck.bsky.social's new book, Homeland: The War on Terror in American Life.
It's fair to wonder what would have happened at the scale of, say, an entire neighborhood in Toronto?

Ford’s attack on bike lanes was unsupported by any evidence, and put people’s lives in danger while accomplishing nothing.
That’s what the judge said. It’s damning and also quite straightforward.
Next up: dealing with overpriced rents and homes—and oversized kitchen islands.

Mohamed Lachemi was a front man for Sidewalk Labs, and he is president of TMU, lauched the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, and is on the board of Rogers Communications.

I agree. Thing is, over the last six months, I’ve converted friends, my mom, and boyfriend to Signal. It’s a slow process. I’m down with it.
Parallèlement : I ignore platforms that are insecure or anti-democratic, like WhatsApp and Instagram. It’s not ideal but long-term, I’m confident.
Pro-tip: Use @signal.org. For many reasons, but one of the easiest ones to appreciate is that it allows you to correct typos after pressing “send".
