I agree, I also think, and a lot of this was my takeaway from the essay - that it needs to be more than just the sane men. I think some of us need to be willing to talk to those sane men about this to both encourage and support them when we ask them to be brave on this.

And I know he's watched people he cares about vanish into this space and be baffled by it as well.

But I also know so many men with excellent role models who've turned out to be exceptional humans. I'd count my husband in this bunch and see him as plenty masculine while not in any way shape or form threatened by my successes or existence or any woman for that matter.

I wish I knew the answer, I think the essay above is the first public text I've read that really starts looking for resolve. I know men who've had what I'd deem to be excellent role models and have struggled immensely and exerted that struggle on the women in their lives in abusive ways.

Just a quick note to say it appears the author is now on Bluesky and I just wanted to say thanks to @christineemba.bsky.social for writing this and doing the work to help us move towards a better public discourse on the topic. Really fantastic piece.

I appreciate your candor. I'd like to think better public discourse would help guys in similar positions to yours. I've spent my life in very male dominated spaces and know what it feels like to be othered by the spaces around me. I definitely know I don't want to be the source of that for anyone.

Storm is literally why I want a fully MCU X-Men movie. Cause when she gets going that’s pretty much it and I want to see that with today’s SFX (though I’ll never be mad at Halle Berry’s casting there because she was perfect & I’ll die on that hill).

With one of my favorite past times in those years being arguing with a bunch of dudes who didn’t think I belonged there to begin with that Storm was the most powerful in the entire marvel verse and they never seemed to have a solid comeback that worked.

But I do enjoy MCU immensely and it pushed me to look outside my largely X-Men, Cap, and Captain Marvel centered verse into Black Panther and Blade, as well as Ms. Marvel, and beyond. My love largely formed as one of six girls at computer camp in the 90s.
