26.02.2025 03:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A sideview of an eagle perched on a human arm protected by a glove. The bird looks big, with great yellow talons and a yellow beak. It appears to be looking at something in the distance. Photo taken at an animal shelter in Texel, Netherlands.
Two pheasants sitting in the grass. The male on the right is a bit more colorful and taller compared to the female on the left. In the distance you can see a cloudy sky above the sea. Photo taken on the island of Texel, Netherlands.
Two small birds walking on the pavement, possibly ruddy turnstones. They have a very clean white underside and dark topside with red legs and feet. In the background you can see the beach. Photo taken in Cascais, Portugal.

21.02.2025 20:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As part of my #deepsea book research, I've become obsessed with the EV Nautilus YouTube channel, and watching their amazing footage! Here's a wee thread of some of my fave weird creatures from there! 1. First up, Chaunacops, a type of anglerfish (full video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tMQ...)

15.02.2025 12:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Every TLD is managed by a registry, .social is managed by United TLD Holdco. They set the prices for the entire TLD, your registrar usually adds a bit on top to cover their costs.
It's easy enough to check what you have to pay with a different registrar. Make sure they do auto-renewal
itp.cdn.icann.org/en/files/reg...
Bottom of page 5:
> The parties acknowledge that the purpose of this Section is to
prohibit abusive and/or discriminatory Renewal Pricing practices imposed by Registry Operator without the written consent of the registrant at the time of the initial
Beware that some registrars will give you a discount in the first year to lure you in. Once you use it for stuff you're unlikely to let go of it.
Unless .social has a very weird setup the renewal price is the same for all domains, the popularity doesn't matter.
I see β¬57 a year for .social.
This particular photo was on foter.com "Montgomery Street" page, but it no longer exists so I can't see what they said

06.01.2025 18:23 β π 4993 π 1126 π¬ 40 π 84An all-orange mushroom grows in slightly mossy ground. Its stipe is rough and orange. You just barely see a bit of the gills peeking out from under the cap, which connect pretty far down the stipe when compared to most mushrooms. The cap is slightly lighter orange than the stipe and had a perfectly circular area around the margin where it's lighter in color, while the direct center of the top is darker orange, and bits of green are starting to become visible.
Lactarius deliciosus is a common mushroom in the Pacific Northwest. They often start out mostly orange, and by the time they decay and fall apart, they can turn mostly or entirely a forest-green color. Despite their name, I believe they are not, in fact, delicious ππ· πΈπ πΏπ± π π· π§‘π

26.12.2024 17:03 β π 319 π 27 π¬ 5 π 1In October 2016, I filmed this wild New Caledonian crow making a probe tool to extract beetle larvae from candlenut trees.
It carefully trimmed the leaves and ends, testing its grip a few times, then flew off to use the tool. A well planned heist.

22.12.2024 11:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Two tabby kittens lying in a small cardboard box on its side on the floor, looking up. One is looking directly at the camera while the other is shyly side eyeing the camera but both look like very naughty toddlers who know theyβve been caught doing something they shouldnβt
Kitten update: this morning, they had five (5) ping pong balls to play with in the kitchen. This afternoon, only two (2) remain. I have *no idea* where the others have gone, and these are the guiltiest faces Iβve ever seen.
