11.02.2026 18:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I haven't done that with my actual projects, but I might write something different and awful to make myself laugh and remind myself that I am capable of good writing. I've heard others do similar stuff to overcome perfectionism--they don't just "get it down" but work on something else badly lol

26.11.2025 06:53 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I didn't care for it either, to be honest. Based on the performance of all the actors, I feel like the script or direction wasn't clicking because they all fell flat. I don't think the casting is the root of the problem though.
25.11.2025 00:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Or maybe the "thin black lips" and "transparent skin" that Mary Shelley described actually make up the OG hot Goth icon--which Jacob Elordi could also totally do.
Was...Was the monster just a rebellious teen? Is he simply a depiction of early 2000s teen angst?
Thread: (5/5)
While I didn't love Frankenstein (2025), I think that Jacob Elordi could be perfect for this character! He could definitely get the full range and capture the moral greyness of the original character.
Thread: (4/5)
In Mary Shelley's original story, he is both "wretched" and "beautiful."
If it were up to me, I'd have the monster be beautiful and tall, but I'd want the actor's movements and speech to sit in the uncanny valley--meaning he appears almost human, but not quite.
Thread: (3/5)
Most recently, Jacob Elordi portrayed Frankenstein. His costume and makeup were exceedingly unique, and has spurred one of the most beloved versions of the monster!
...But he's still not quite right...
Thread: (2/5)
Frankenstein's monster has been depicted in SO many ways. Boris Karloff as Frankenstein is perhaps the most iconic, right?
But it's not even close to what Mary Shelley actually described the monster as!

We cover the important things in this one: how Mary Shelley created a genre, our moral obligations as creators, and why are so many of the monsters hot?

It may feel exhausting to call them but it wonโt be as awful as life under that budget. If you havenโt reached out, this is the time.

It's because it's Gollum and Smeagol, so I'm not sure it's royal, but it's definitely some kind of "we"... So yes?

I get it. I try to just emphasize that like this is my dream and my big goal! I'm not sure if that's why I get depressed. It might literally be that I miss my imaginary friends, but...i think it's probably the dream thing?

I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.

Did this book get it right though?

My dream is absolutely to write a noir (movie or book), and this is SO valuable. What a cool perspective...

Today is Black Authors Day!
Although we've made a lot of progress in supporting Black writers, they still face discrimination when trying to publish. One of the easiest ways to help is to look up Black authors in your genre and give them a read!
Too easy!!!
