Oh my gosh yes! People need to say "i don't know" more!

I haven't done that with my actual projects, but I might write something different and awful to make myself laugh and remind myself that I am capable of good writing. I've heard others do similar stuff to overcome perfectionism--they don't just "get it down" but work on something else badly lol

I didn't care for it either, to be honest. Based on the performance of all the actors, I feel like the script or direction wasn't clicking because they all fell flat. I don't think the casting is the root of the problem though.

Or maybe the "thin black lips" and "transparent skin" that Mary Shelley described actually make up the OG hot Goth icon--which Jacob Elordi could also totally do.

Was...Was the monster just a rebellious teen? Is he simply a depiction of early 2000s teen angst?

While I didn't love Frankenstein (2025), I think that Jacob Elordi could be perfect for this character! He could definitely get the full range and capture the moral greyness of the original character.

In Mary Shelley's original story, he is both "wretched" and "beautiful."

If it were up to me, I'd have the monster be beautiful and tall, but I'd want the actor's movements and speech to sit in the uncanny valley--meaning he appears almost human, but not quite.

Most recently, Jacob Elordi portrayed Frankenstein. His costume and makeup were exceedingly unique, and has spurred one of the most beloved versions of the monster!

...But he's still not quite right...

Frankenstein's monster has been depicted in SO many ways. Boris Karloff as Frankenstein is perhaps the most iconic, right?

But it's not even close to what Mary Shelley actually described the monster as!

I get it. I try to just emphasize that like this is my dream and my big goal! I'm not sure if that's why I get depressed. It might literally be that I miss my imaginary friends, but...i think it's probably the dream thing?

I saw someone say AI is useful because it generates ideas. My dude, I'm full of ideas. I have docs and docs marked under 'ideas.' I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.

Annihilation is based on a book of the same name which, uncommonly, features several unnamed main characters. It's a pretty bold movie and is so easy to get wrong...
