Pop culture, policy, neurology, and the Oxford comma. Timberwolves! Vacationing in the 90s. [Not able to post about politics for a while, which is damn hard.]

I haven’t seen the South Park episode, but the β€œwow, bold!” coverage feels off. The show AND Paramount got exactly what they need. Everyone wants to watch it. A marketing win-win is just that, not courage.

Whatever happened to Eric Holder taking on gerrymandering as his post-government advocacy? Is anyone in the US having success with advocacy work on this? I should be more cynical, but blatant gerrymandering will never cease to blow my mind.

You two just stumbled onto a great name for an AI counter-program. An ad blocker for AI.

If tech companies put AI everywhere all at once, the clock ticks faster toward it feeling like a natural part of everyday life. People not using it become the Luddites, the joke. It’s a key reason for corporate competitors to do this jointly and rapidly.

I think one of the many simple reasons tech companies are mass-imposing AI is they’ve studied how quickly humanity can normalize new things. TVs were introduced amid corporate fanfare BUT people had cultural concerns. How long did it take before it’d be weird NOT to watch and buy TVs? Cell phones?

Pardon my geekdom.

As a non-Brit watching this play out from afar, drip by drip, I’ve been trying to understand WHY. Why did an incoming Labor leader 1) target disability benefits at all, and 2) not realize how damaging that would be politically? It seems like a weird combination of callousness and dumbness.

From a 20-something friend there: β€œI would start in germantown and eat somewhere like rolf & daughters or the optimist, then grab a drink at a nicer bar in Germantown and then if you really want to see live music head to broadway.” (No β€˜nicer bar’ specifics yet.)
