Much like a toddler on a hike, the Perseverance rover has been collecting samples of interesting rocks it finds around the Martian desert. (1/n)
Astronomy on Tap is back in the Valley of the Sun! Join us at Four Peaks Brewing Company in Tempe, AZ on Tuesday, September 9th to commemorate 30 years since the discovery of the first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star. (1/3)

Spent the night listening to great talks by Dr. Phil Christensen and Dr. Steve Ruff, playing some trivia, and learning a lot about Mars. Even got to hold some Mars rocks courtesy of ASUโs Buseck Center for Meteorite Studies!

Whatever you might hear from fascist billionaires, Mars is extremely dry, extremely coldโand extremely inhospitable.
For the energy, effort, and expense it takes to make Mars habitable for humans we could ensure that Earth is protected, cherished, and able to care for countless generations to come.

The view is centered on Sputnik Planitia, and you can see some of the latitudinal bands of different terrain circling the globe. However, Iโve colored Pluto with the colors of the trans Pride flag, starting with dark pink up at the top on the pole, light pink at the mid latitudes, a white cream color for the heart, and light blue for the icy glaciers, and dark blue for the equator and southern hemisphere. A little white sketch of new horizons is also shown over to the top right. It is on a dark gray background. I did the sketch in procreate on the iPad.

The Martian sky.
This image shows the planetary system HR 8799. The background is black. At the center there is a symbol representing a star labeled HR 8799. The starโs light is blocked. There are four exoplanets, which look like fuzzy dots, pictured surrounding the star. Furthest from the star is a fuzzy, faint blue dot, labeled b, at the 10 oโclock position. At the 1 oโclock position, second furthest from the star is a blueish-white fuzzy dot labeled c. Just below that is an orange dot labeled e. At the 4 oโclock position, still near the star, is another fuzzy white dot labeled d.
The James Webb Space Telescope imaged young, giant exoplanets and detected carbon dioxide! The findings suggest that the giant exoplanets in the HR 8799 system likely formed like Jupiter and Saturn. (1/5) ๐ญ ๐งช ๐งต
