He relied on people, either because of actual personal history or sense of common educational and professional history, to not call him on his BS. I doubt he knows how to deal with people who don’t indulge him as a supposed peer.

I grew up with him. He was one of my closest friends, into our 40’s. Increasingly for liberals, he either said “well here I’m talking to a specific conservative audience, I would take a different approach elsewhere” or “oh alas, that we look at the same evidence & reach such different conclusions.”

ICE's Masks Are All a Lie Working for ICE is actually less dangerous than being an elementary school student in America.

One good point from this piece by @vermontgmg.bsky.social is that ICE doesn't need guns to do its job (if they are going after 'bad hombres', they could ask for aid from other agencies). I bet if we banned their guns, a fair number of them would quit because it's not fun anymore.

It feels more like they want to avoid lawsuits from victims’ families. “Bob never would have done X if policy said every person for themself.”

The training also basically said, “leave everyone else to die.” The answer to almost every question about helping other people was “don’t do it.”

Maybe that’s the best odds, tactically speaking. But it feels gross.

Complete my annual active shooter training for work today. There was a whole slide this year dedicated to how not to get shot by police when you exit the building. It literally said, they have to view everyone as a threat to them. Why is this considered acceptable?

The broader attitude is galling when, here in PDX, it was well known after George Floyd protests that the police were deliberately not responding in timely fashion to 911 calls as retribution against the community. They don’t even do the 911 things we’re supposed to kiss their feet for.
