As a scholar of religion, this sort of paragraph (from the NYT story on Minnesota shooter Vance Boelter) makes zero sense, treating “religious fervor” and political ideology as if they’re two discreet categories easily distinguished from one another.

It feels like nobody understands that at college you take actual classes with actual topics. Conservatives think every class is "Marxist Theory and How to Overthrow the State" and a lot of other people think they're all "Job Skills for Jobbing" but they're usually things like "Russian Literature."
