The logic, presumably, is that they need to fear you, so that the won't take liberties.

Here's the 2020 paper. In it I wrote that well-being is constituted by "being attuned to, or at home in, the world" and that "being disoriented, ill-at-ease in, or hostile to the world makes life go poorly." But I never got around to talking about the bad life in detail.

The epistemology of fascism is not cult-like, rigid dogmatism. It's "lol-nothing-matters, they're all a bunch of liars" cynicism. That is the mindset that will pliantly accept whatever authoritarian excesses Trump engages in, and both Trump and Elon are 100% aware of that.

Pay attention to what JD Vance and Musk are saying to Europe. They are upset that Europe is not giving them full "free speech" rights in digital information. Translation: MAGA won in a swamp of disinformation, much of it on SM platforms like X. They want RW govts in Europe, using the same model.

To me the moral of The Boy Who Cried Wolf is that the downside risk of ignoring warnings can be very bad even if the messenger is very annoying and unreliable

30% think Brexit was good. 24% think Farage would be a good prime minister. Doesn't strike me as all that contradictory.

Republican Party: We spent millions of dollars spreading misinformation and managed to change the public perception of trans people from positive to negative, which got us votes Democrat Party: We spent zero dollars and did nothing on this issue, we then lost Cis person: As a very smart political analyst I suggest the Democrats give up on trans issues. That will help them win votes!
