I submitted final revisions for a paper just a few weeks before Trump announced his first presidential run.

It features an example of him acting as a political donor. I really wish that example wasn't in there.

The logic, presumably, is that they need to fear you, so that the won't take liberties.
If you're of a purely transactional mindset yourself, this kinda makes sense.

Hasko von Kriegstein, Well-Being as Harmony - PhilPapers In this paper, I sketch out a novel theory of well-being according to which well-being is constituted by harmony between mind and world. The notion of harmony I develop has three ...

Here's the 2020 paper. In it I wrote that well-being is constituted by "being attuned to, or at home in, the world" and that "being disoriented, ill-at-ease in, or hostile to the world makes life go poorly." But I never got around to talking about the bad life in detail.

Teresa Bruno-Niño & Hasko Von Kriegstein, Ill-Being as Dissonance - PhilPapers This chapter lays the groundwork for a novel objectivist theory of ill-being, by exploring what harmonism, a theory of well-being, can and should say about ill-being. As the constituent principles of ...

New paper with Teresa Bruno: "Ill-Being as Dissonance".
A sort of companion piece to my 2020 paper "Well-Being as Harmony".

Teresa and I chart the territory of what an account of ill-being might look like.

The epistemology of fascism is not cult-like, rigid dogmatism. It's "lol-nothing-matters, they're all a bunch of liars" cynicism. That is the mindset that will pliantly accept whatever authoritarian excesses Trump engages in, and both Trump and Elon are 100% aware of that.

Would it be possible to add that function to PhilJobs?

wouldn't you like to know.

Right, I'm aware of that function. But that doesn't help me in the (hypothetical) situation where I'm open to work almost everywhere but not in one or two specific places.

Jobs in Philosophy - PhilJobs:JFP An international database of jobs for philosophers

#philsky #philjobs

When searching the Philjobs.org database, is there a way to filter out jobs in specific countries?

Would be useful if, hypothetically, I didn't want to work in country X but there are lots of jobs posted in country X cluttering up my search results...

Yeah, you can't just send people back to the states like that these days. If you really can't let her into the country, you have to make sure to send her home.

There's no way I'm going to the US right now. Especially not for an academic conference.

I would definitely not go right now.

1. For the past thirty years I've had the best job in the world.

I've had the opportunity to follow my curiosity; explore the workings of nature and society; mentor students and junior colleagues in the same process; and teach generations of students about it all.

Now I'm imagining a world in which all of Musk's horrible actions over the past years are part of a longterm plan to make conservatives buy EVs.

Pay attention to what JD Vance and Musk are saying to Europe. They are upset that Europe is not giving them full "free speech" rights in digital information. Translation: MAGA won in a swamp of disinformation, much of it on SM platforms like X. They want RW govts in Europe, using the same model.

30% think Brexit was good. 24% think Farage would be a good prime minister. Doesn't strike me as all that contradictory.

Republican Party: We spent millions of dollars spreading misinformation and managed to change the public perception of trans people from positive to negative, which got us votes

Democrat Party: We spent zero dollars and did nothing on this issue, we then lost

Cis person: As a very smart political analyst I suggest the Democrats give up on trans issues. That will help them win votes!
