The debate around what is or isn’t “cancel culture” really just obscures a simple truth that it’s BAD to be massively racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic and it’s GOOD to speak out against injustice. Some things are good and some things are bad and it’s okay to say which you think are which.

Now, though, Trump officials say Kirk’s killing may provide the framework they need to punish liberal groups.

THIS is the difference between what’s happening now in the Trump administration and “cancel culture” causing people to lose their jobs. Companies aren’t acting in response to cultural norms being violated; they’re reacting out of fear from the federal government. That’s why it’s a free speech issue.

Suzanne Swierc Let me be clear: if you think Charlie Kirk was a wonderful person, we can't be friends. His death is a tragedy, and I can and do feel for his wife and children. I believe in the Resurrection, and while it's difficult, I can and do pray for his soul. Charlie Kirk's death is a reflection of the violence, fear, and hatred he sowed. It does not excuse his death, AND it's a sad truth. The shooting is a tragedy, and I can and do feel for a college campus experiencing an active shooter situation. The deaths of Melissa and Mark Hortman, the children shot and killed in Minneapolis last month, and the children shot in Colorado today are all tragedies that also deserve your attention. Charlie Kirk excused the deaths of children in the name of the second amendment.

It’s not what they doing legislatively that’s the problem—obviously there are limitations there. The problem is their messaging. They are telling us that they *still* value right-leaning voters they lost to Trump over left-leaning voters they lost to disillusionment.

I did vote for the lesser evil last election but I’m reaching my breaking point. I definitely can’t blame the folks who didn’t—especially given that whenever they express frustration about the party failing to represent them, yes men jump in and try to shame them into falling in line.
