Digital textbooks and the places they're available are great in that they ensure access is never unattainable, but I do value physical books for aesthetic reasons and for not needing a screen to view them.

Just remembered I can find old textbooks online for like $7 each. Hmm.

Treason against an evil government, in turn, I don't see as a valid thing because an evil government is either illegitimate in the first place or has itself betrayed its people, and so fighting it is a just and faithful cause.

I care about the nation-state insofar as it's doing something [at least comparatively] good, or holding against something bad. The US was progressing toward slavery abolition, and the Confederates seceded to preserve it.

I've encountered people puzzled at how I can be mad at Confederates in the context of them being traitors when I've mentioned I really don't care much about national allegiance.

I care about treason in the context of betraying the human condition.

It's also incredibly aggravating when you're talking with someone who insists on having you on speakerphone—or worse, they let you know mid-conversation.

I wonder how many of these people are also the type to be hyper-adamant about privacy in other contexts.

Run-ins with genAI are interesting in the sense that you never really adjust to just how glaringly bad it is. I'm seeing a product listing for underwear that the company has left up to genAI, and, in its paragraph and six bullet points, it fails to even mention what material they're made of.
