Lived in an agricultural community for several years. Not so much formal socializing, but definitely chatting before an election or when there was any sort of illness aroundβ€”human or cow, and moaning about the weather. Brief but in touch. Mulligan chose to be reclusive, i agree.

Jolene can’t do this on her own. What if she explained to Ed how George isn’t getting that saying sorry and hoping everyone will want to be anywhere near him can’t happen in fast order. People need time to see him as changed. Time. He has a place to live. Do volunteer work now.

And poor Fallon. No , it simply can’t happen.

He really is incredibly self-centered. Needs a proper talking to. But who?

Wow, that would in a way be amazing. Although he was indeed besotted with the non-judging Bartleby and does the occasional turkey care, do you think of him as a farmer? I think he may be more an IT guy, one who doesn’t have a regular schedule so the opposite of farming?

Could be. The character is certainly a new fav, indeed the whole family is. Nice idea.

Maybe. But maybe he led a rich life as an author and used a pseudonym?

Long ago links? Mulligan's Neil's fraternal twin and Neil thus learns his back story from EsmΓ©, his neice? And is distracted from George drama? Father turns out to have been reclusive writer (like Salinger, "For EsmΓ©" who lived in Devon)

Yeees. That idea brings up so many questions. Adoptees have so many things they have no choice but to accept.

Oh that is sad. An e-hug coming your way from me. As i was16, i’m hoping some were in your life during the teen years. If little else, it was interesting to know the parents of my parents.

Would be great if George paid back his gran and apologized, without excuses, for putting her in that situation. She will laugh it off and excuse him but just taking a bit of responsibility would be terrific on his part.

Aw. Thanks. Your warm words have reminded me of a very nice rapport I had with said gran.

Oh, yes. Your toddler line describes so well how they treat him. Haven't heard anyone say, It's just a stage he's going through, but that's how they act. He isn't judged the way others are, I guess because they want to make up for how he came about? Is that possible? A long time ago..

I did remember asking one of my grans to lunch because of some help she had given me. I am not a behavioral model but i counted my money at least ten times before meeting her.. The idea of getting the money wrong pretty much ensured that i had a salad for lunch.

Too true. Did you have that sort of grandparent? I didn’t. I was a sort of project that everyone felt free to call my mother with criticisms of most everything about me.

Neil, lovely Neil. Totally right. I think without Neil’s insistence, however, Susan would see George if George were willing.

Everyone afraid of George getting annoyed and refusing to see them. They have the sad example of Neil and Susan.. So no one will criticize him or offer ideas on how to do things a different way, lest he get angry. So odd, the kid calling the shots.

But not to have checked that he had enough money to pay for lunch? When you invite someone, really, that would be the first thing you would make sure of. Sad scene, Clarrie searching through her handbag...

And neither Clarrie nor Eddie got how not right was. Will he go around town saying the wrong thing in the wrong place? And not get why people aren’t getting him? Needs help on so many fronts and those grandparents aren’t giving it.

Ithink it was Neil who fired George and who called him a liar and who was on the outs for a long while with Emma for refusing to give George yet another chance. Neil has understood that George has troubling aspects to his personality for a while and told Emma so.

Perhaps another faction, those who think George is redeemable and that Alice is on the right track in her sobriety? George’s likeability doesn’t figure into it so much.

Very sticky situation, especially as two of his victims are his maternal grandparents. I guess I want too much from him, wanting him to understand how he's hurt others and to do more than say he's sorry, to at some length say what he's sorry for without excuses.

Yes, but...The chain was begun by George getting into the driver's seat. Alice had other times "slept it off" in her car; George decided he wanted to drive the car and hoped Alice would be so grateful that she would allow him to drive it other times. He made the decision to be involved.

A reasonable thing to wonder. Were he a scion, he would have had top legal representation who could have argued, probably successfully, for community service rather than a custodial sentence. I think listeners would have supported Alice, a single mother now getting sober.
