D&D is just One in a Million! Mothership, Call of Cthulu, Savage Worlds, Mausritter, Tiny Dungeon, Traveller, Ironsworn, Daggerheart, Blades in the Dark etc. etc. there are sooo many other TTRPGs out there. It's easier if you know the genre you prefer and what kind of setting interests you.

I auit playing D&D a very ling time ago same old song and dance. So many other interesting and enjoyable games abound, I never looked back. If anything it's not an D&D killer but more like a gradual erosion.

It's my most recommended game for a one-shot - even if everyone at the table has zero experience, the framework and GM section guide everyone through and it's fun all around.

On top of that the "telling a story" thing is really nice and gives characters depth during play. #pbta ftw

It's ideal if the death is somehow meaningful. Doesn't have to be heroic. Unfortunately accidental (and thus less meaningful deaths - not at all meaningful usually) is the most frequent death of a character.

Screen addiction is a thing and many people still only use their mobile to phone and nothing else. Also having an app for everything can become a PITA. Plus the data hoarding some apps do. Not having to worry about a data plan or having WiFi or GSM cell coverage is fine by me as well. It's a choice

I think many "regular players" are rather overwhelmed with playing cooperatively i.e improvising to continue the narrative/fiction. Even then few games have a framework to help with playing that way.

Agreed. DCC Adventures are super text heavy. Still pretty fun to play. All the DCC stuff looks a bit "dated" in general imo - to some that has it's own charm, personally I don't enjoy it that much.

I often have the feeling that if it weren't for social media, people wouldn't make such crass statements in a public discourse - face to face. The more extreme the view or statements made, the more reactions you get - some people think that is what makes them successful.
