The Skokie library has multiple 3d printers. They print what patrons request (limited requests per month), but I wonder if they'd be willing to do a bunch of these.

The addi king size is meant for much thicker yarns -- think hats. The prym one looks to be as well. For socks, you need something a little more durable because of the tension you need. There are 3d printing instructions out there for one from Dean and Bean I believe. Mine is an antique Gearhart.

So I guess I'm saying that it's a bit looser, but it's ok that it is, I don't think the sock quality suffers for it. I do in addition have a 72 st cylinder, but for me the problem with that is that the gauge is a bit tight for fingering weight yarn.

The gauge is definitely a bit looser on my csm knit socks, but there's also a different quality to it somehow. For example, as a handknitter, I have very compressed row gauge, but the csm elongates that for me. (cont'd)

I have an antique csm. You can get larger cylinders than 48 usually, for one thing. The one I use the most is 54. That being said, I was a little skeptical since I usually handknit 60-72 stitch socks. (cont'd)
