I think there's case law indicating that immigration/deportation are not intended to be punitive. We're going to need class actions challenging these concentration camps.

If our armed attack of Venezuela is considered a military act (war), it's even a war crime. I don't buy the administration's argument that it's "law enforcement" to serve a warrant. Let the ICC sort it all out.

I think "reform the police" is a fuzzy message. People want to be protected, but don't often realize how that can go too far.

That's why I said messaging matters. The opposition often frames the issue. Fund the police isn't an adequate response, but they lost the argument in the framing.

Because refund the police polled so poorly, and was being used against them in campaigns. Messaging matters. You need law enforcement, but they shouldn't be killing people in mental health crises. Hire and use crisis counselors.

I think "abolish ICE" really means "replace ICE". It is a recognition that the current agency is so fundamentally flawed that lawmakers need to start over. You often hear this includes limiting CBP to the actual border, but that agency has a violent history and should be replaced, too.

I'll bet the drafter was instructed to draft it that way, but should have used their legal knowledge to clean it up. Doubt very much anyone meant to imply state police could wear masks.
