It’s quite hard to read “an indication that identity politics only gets you so far” in any other way than the author being dismissive of “identity politics”, which itself is usually a derogatory term. What point are you trying to make with that sentence? Or with the post as a whole? “Misread” indeed

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

There’s a scene where an angry woman in a car is shouting at Bobby and I found it one of the most disturbing Bits in anything.

Perennial reminder that for a film to win an award, it doesn’t have to be the best film ever made. It doesn’t need to be better than your fave film that blew your mind when you were 12. It just has to be arguably better, overall, all things considered, than the other also good films *last year*.

“Other people’s dreams are boring” I mean sure, if you have no theory of mind. This is the juice imo. I’d buy a book of this.

They KEEP aiming for before 2016. They keep going there to undo the last thing they did. Real old woman who swallowed a fly stuff. Way past Biff Tannen the tycoon.

Mad that it’s one billionaire scumbag who’s behind these massive-scale evictions in London AND the mass closure of London pubs AND beloved institution the Prince Charles Cinema being in dire straits AND the high street being clogged with cruddy candy shops. A one-man enshittification engine.

It has to be a pretty stagnant chart for things to gradually rise to number one. A real banger drought. A dry spell of bops. A slack water of choons so still that there’s nothing to do but make a perfectly adequate song #1, like being forced to eat your own leg.

What’s the version of conservatism that doesn’t - at least quietly, privately - want to see some groups of people disenfranchised?

I think the point is that the monarchy would prefer the public think of him as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, than as Prince Andrew. So why freely give them what they’d prefer? Not to mention all those syllables of life you’ll never get back.

It feels important to keep calling him Prince Andrew. Because the monarchy should not be able to unilaterally distance itself from wrong’uns to protect the brand so easily. The things he did are the direct result of monarchy.

Not to mention if you look at the Wikipedia entries for your favourite films, half of them say “A commercial and critical failure, the film later found cult status on the home video market”
