Is it me, or can submitting art to open calls sometimes send one down a creative rabbit hole?

For example, the theme of “Reflections” had me tinkering with the first image – with the crop, with whether it should be horizontal or vertical; I even experimented with adding water & reflection effects.

Thanks! The effect is the result of a particular prism filter screwed onto the lens. (I think it goes by a few different names - a vortex filter, whirlpool, or halo filter. Found this one on eBay - but I think it can be found elsewhere, too.)
